Cumbuco area vs Mancora area

Postby yzbob » Fri May 31, 2013 7:01 pm

Hi all,

which would you choose and why? (lets keep the topic only between these 2 areas).

here is how i see the competition hotting up, please voice your opinions and correct anything you think i may have inaccurate.

Mancora & surrounding area

+better surf
+better night life?
+Spanish speaking (preferable)
+cheaper?
+marginally safer?
+new place to visit.

Cumbuco & surrounding area

++warmer water. (no wetsuit required).
++more windy days.
+easier to get to (for me).
+familiar area.
+less crowded/more space ?

I have been to Cumbuco, and several other places along the coast of Ceara before but I'm really torn where to vacation this year. I'm looking to improve my strapless riding but will also spend some time on a TT. travel with 7m, 9m,12m kites, a 5'8 surfboard & a TT.

thanks

bob

Hi Bob,

You just received my vote (the first one here).
There is a reason I (and many others) ended up here in Cumbuco.

Cheers

PS: Better nightlife there? Cheaper? Safer? Mmhhh, not so sure about that...

Apples and oranges to me: one is cold other is warm. One is pretty much all waves the other is a bit of everything. Both are some of best riding in world tough choice you got buddy hehe :cool2:

I´ve been in both and i´ve no doubt about it....MANCORA. In fact after being there for first time i decided to move there.

You can kite in mancora with 4 or 5 kites more in the water. That´s priceless. i love cumbuco like i love tarifa but it´s too crowdy.

In Peru you can taste one of the bests meals in the world, it´s much cheaper than cumbuco (you have a menu from 3$)

The best kitesurfing experience that i had was in macora when i was kiting alone and at 400mts a whale jumping...no words to express my feelings.

if you like waves mancora and surroundings (like lobitos) are perfect.

Anyway both destinations are world class.

If you need info about mancora do not hesitate to contact me.

All the best

"I'm looking to improve my strapless riding"
then its Mancora (or more importantly Peru) hands down. but....

I've spent 3 months at both cumbuco and Mancora. Mancora does get busy. Even if there aren't lots of kites there are lots of surfers and some of the worst snaking i have ever seen - expect bad etiquette. Personally I rate Pacasmayo and Lobitos - not far from Mancora for kiting. Mancora is one wave on one point, Pacasmayo is a wet dream but Mancora, more importantly the town will keep you interested. Not much nightlife in pacasmayo or Lobitos. There is also really good TT riding at Tres cruces near Lobitos and i kited 90% of the time there alone.

I am not biased , i have no affiliation with any company. Cumbuco and Northeast Brazil is stunning though. Thinking about the whole package (accommodation, food, nightlife, meeting other kiters etc) i would choose Cumbuco but if you seriously want to improve strapless then Peru has to be the option - world class waves. Peru is much cheaper than Brazil also.

... Did i mention Brazilian girls :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: Wow!

I decided on Brazil, I think i'll save Peru till my wave kiting is a higher standard (maybe next year when my friend can also come).

already booked the 1st week in Taiba, no set plans after that will just play it by ear based on who I met and how i feel. Got Guajiru & Flecheiras on the radar at the moment?

thanks

explain too crowdy in Cumbuco, which has 15 km coastline?
Or do you mean the Cauipe lagoon in November?

Kiting with less than 10 kites in the water last few weeks in Cauipe, now thats not crowded is it? I know soon will be more people but if you go downwind from Cumbuco always can find nice water for you and your friends, the wind is on and we are happy here. Happy kiting to all! :cool2:
