So the obvious question: why no knife? or couldn't reach it or dropped it?

A buddy had a Kite mare where he was hog tied but his harness turned and ccouldn't reach knife. Scary. Ideal to have one near upper body....I sewed one into impact vest at chest level.

Happy it worked out well for Robert!

Very important was that he swam to the Kite and gold on...if not you can drown very quickly in cold water.

I wonder what got him tangled so much?

Helmet gopro boots gps watch and a backpack :o Wonder what he was doing in what also looks to be semi off-shore conditions

Very happy that he made it with no injuries. That must have been so awfull to be trapped like that. Damn :x

+1 They are built tough with good quality stainless steel blades. I use them scuba diving.

Good job Robert! Remember guys, climb on top of your kite if you get tangled while you still have a little bit of mobility. Makes so much difference. Sometimes you forget to bring your knife, other times you drop it, lots can happen, as long as he came back safe, no fatality, it's all good in my book. It's very easy to tangle when the wind dies and you are swimming around trying to relaunch. You may not even notice that a leg gets trapped by a line and by the time you notice it can be too late. To prevent tangles you have to remember never kick your legs, swim with the arms only.

This is a better link. Shows the the harness holster. I would also recommend getting the brighter colors and not black.

The crew on the rescue boat didn't just cut that tangled mess of line off his leg?

That was odd ? maybe the lines had not been cut in the water, and the guy wanted to save the lines !!
