i had an accident where after crashing an unhooked trick the floater wrapped around the bar and the kite relaunched and started looping.
Fortunately after the 2nd loop it crashed and it stopped giving me time to control the situation.
After this is always front connection for the leash for me. I saw the looping coming and i didnt have time to reach my leash on my back, on the 1st loop i was flying backwards 15 metres horizontally and couldnt pull it at all.
Conclusion: Leash on the front all the time

I am really glad you made it and shared your story with us.
I am sure this will help to save some lives!
Wow, what a story.
And I am even more happy, that I prefer to fly a big kite in lighter winds...I limit my risk a lot by doing this. My smallest kite is a 14 and I barely use it.
For people who just like to have fun without worrying too much about safety, think about it...
mr moon, welcome back to life and enjoy it!!!

Hey Mr. Moon
I'm glad you are better now but it does take time coming back comfortably, but be patient about it don't rush into, little by little you will back to the same confident level.

One thought is to not use a leash at in heavy conditions. Obviously this wont work if you want to unhook or if there a crowded beach downwind.
But in more remote beaches or in colder temps with strong winds often the beach is empty and not having a leash makes it much easier to get rid of the entire kite quickly. Better to lose a kite than get hurt! Sounds like this (mr moons) incident would have been avoided without a leash.
If things start getting out of hand and there is no one down wind first thing I do is take the leash off my kite and clip to the harness hook. This saved my butt once in about 35-40 knots that came up to 45-50ish..gusting 60... the 5m I was on started inverting etc. Tried to bring it down as i got to the beach but my catcher missed it and it relaunched. Moments before things went very bad released the whole kite bar set-up into the dunes. some minor damage to my gear occurred but I was fine

. . . if he had leashed on front instead of the "handle pass / drowning you" loop on the back.

I dont read German but I understand that the upper figures are the force needed to operate the Q/R and the lower figures are the release force with sand in the Q/R.
I dont understand the differences between the forces in the horizontal direction when there is an asterix.
The North release looks like the easiest to release.
