This looks awful. Hope he survived. Looks like his bar is in suicide mode? Pretty sure the kite wrapped up in the powerlines after that brutal impact.

You have to hardwire your brain to punch out the instant you lose control. Trip, crazy gust, knuclehead grabs your bar, whatever....just punch out without hesitation. I was so paranoid when I first started kiting , I practiced PO till it became a natural response. I'm about to get my son kiting and I plan on spending countless hours drilling this into his head..

this way every instruction lesson should be.
It needs to become a reflex, like hitting the breaks of a car.

I would start every course like this: do this (showing the movement of the QR).
Then I would start with theory and every 5 minutes I would should: RELEASE !
And then the students need to do the movement.
And that would continue thru the whole course.

That will save lives for sure.

IKO? Your call !

I set up my bar in my yard with bungee cords on the ends of my outside lines and then fixed to the ground with a screwdriver. Then I fixed the two center lines to the ground with another screwdriver. I put on my harness on ,hooked in and could lean on the lines just like when kiting. Sheeting in and out, and punching out felt very natural with tension from the bungees and fixed center lines. Highly recommend when teaching someone.

according to this FB post he is hurt but not to bad, considering...

'In Yeisk (Russia), a gusty wind threw the 29-year-old rider onto a roadside curb, and then straight into the shop window.

Extremal first hovers above the road, and then falls sharply, successfully crossing the passing car, from which the cabin was filmed. A gust of wind literally threw the rider into the glass shop window. As a result, the athlete broke his arm, and also received numerous bruises, cuts and abrasions."

Thank you for the picture, K-Roy. Sounds as if it could have been much worse. I can't view the OP's video (format? FB?) for some reason. Probably just as well not to see it. :o
