Dont worry about the cold water in Cape Town.
You spend most of the time onto or in the air.
Besides not all of Cape Towns water is cold.

Kite surfers from all over the world come over for the season. Besides.. if the worlds best kite surfer Aaron H from the UK chooses to train in CT over summer, it should be a good spot.

If you find the water cold then head up the coast. There are plenty of great spots all the way up IE Durban.

Great wave ridding all the way !!

Cape Town has a very good flat water spot called Langebaan. The water is warm and conditions are AWESOME.

Attached are some of Cape Towns good kite surf spots.
There are plenty more.. just explore.

Brazil or South Afr in Jan

I have to say those pictures of Cape Town look amazing! But this is what I can tell you about BRAZIL in January:

Rio de Janeiro: wind is uncertain in January, you can get 4-5 days in a row with 20 knots, then nothing for 10 days. Excellent waves in Barra da Tijuca.

Buzios: For better wind conditions, better drive 2 hours east to Buzios or Araruama (lake) in Cabo Frio with stronger wind, and a variety of conditions, flat, bump and jump or waves on different beaches.

Fortaleza (Ceara): considered one of the best places in the world for kite and windsurf. But the windy season is July to December, with 20-30 knots daily, water very warm at 29 degrees, air temp at 31-32. January uncertain (although a friend was there first 2 weeks with 15-20 knots every day) but this depends on when the rainy season starts, sometimes it can only start in March, so you still get a lot of wind until then. Direct flights to Fortaleza from Lisbon and other European cities.

Good luck
