Toby-

I just flew on Hawaiian OGG-LIH and back. They are sticklers on weight. They attempted to charge for EVERY bag. Be warned that the agents at the desk are not clear as to what is to be charged. We had to talk to the supervisor to get our FIRST bags free.

o man,
i just shipped all my gear to nebraska. and i mean all my gear, buggy, board, kites, pump, tires, and anything else i could fit.
the bag was 93lbs and a box for the tires and extras was 34 lbs. i made sure to get them there as slow as possible, from seaside or to nebraska. it only cost me 90 bucks

That's a nice resource.

The weakness I see is since these policies change all the time, we'll never know if they are up to date. Do I plan my trip around this information or go to the airline website? And if I'm going to have to double-check the information I might as well just go to the airline website to begin with.

I have a few suggestions...any or all of which may alieve this;

1) Date each entry. (current "Last Modified" may be fine!) :thumb:
2) Also show "date last verified" (policy hasn't changed, but it was checked on this date)
3) Hot links back to the original source. (would make it very easy to double check the info and then I'm still coming to this page for the easy to read interface, and I "double check" link.)

Now, perhaps all the information now is actually a live view of the airline website. If so, just let us know. Even better! (but I'm sure hard to implement)

Good stuff. Thanks.

The message is more useful to windsurfers, but every kite surfer also can take something from it:

¨The goal of this blog is to send a message to fellow travelers, surfers etc. TACA airlines has double prices and if you can avoid flying with them in South America, do it!¨

More detailed trip and price description here: http://www.spotas.lt/?p=1291&lang=en

Good luck traveling!

Great site :thumb:

Very useful to try and avoid all those extra costs.

FYI if anyone is flying with TAP Portugal to Brazil (I only know this to Fortaleza) then you can try and put your kite gear in a golf bag as long as its under 15KG then its for FREE :D

It works for me every time I go to Brazil (hopefully TAP wont read this hehe)

If you check in a kitebag (also has to be under 15KG) its 75Euro one way!

So guys, break out your golf bag and dont forget to charm the lady at the check in to avoid these extra costs that you could be spending on beers... :D :D
