Kitesurfing Jamaica

Postby MattyRossJa » Tue May 29, 2012 6:19 pm

The summer season is usually dead in Jamaica as the ideal spots for kiting are on the north coast (which has little wind during the summer) ....

But on the south coast the wind is UP !

here are some shots of this weekend's kiting on the south coast , in and around kingston city

some wave riding at the surf spot Copacabana :

kiting at maiden cay just off the coast of jamaica:

Nice pictures :-)

I will be in Montego Bay this week thursday until next monday and I am thinking about to carry my gear all the way from Germany. Just not sure if there is a realistic chance during this time to get enough wind to ride my 9m or 12m Vegas. 14kt would be just ok.
What do you think? Take it or leave it at home?

Cheers
David

bring the gear man , we're forecast good wind on the North coast (montego Bay) this week/weekend , i'd say bring both in case , but bring the 12m if you only wanna bring one kite. i may be in montego bay this weekend so give me a call when you get here and wanna see the sweet spots ... and if i'm not there i can link you up with the right guy.

wicked , rose hall is right between Montego bay and Bounty Bay (one of the sweetest kitesurfing spots here) so hopefully if the wind is good , that would be an ideal spot to go

I'm a newbie hoping to go someplace warm this winter to hone my skills.
Anyone have info on the best spots and time of year to kite board in Jamaica and if they are beginner friendly?

Many thx
Raz

I will be going to Jamaica in Dec/Jan. Cannot find really too much info about kite-friendly beaches on the north side of the island. Any recommendations?

Burwood beach

also i kited here but you don't want to end up down wind, its not easy to come in on the beach at the end, very shallow reef.

burwood is good, there are some local kiters there. flat water only no waves when i've been there.
