Postby IanNJ » Fri May 15, 2015 6:40 pm

I just read everything on here about Barbados but looking for some current info.
Heading there end of January 2016
Thinking of taking:
10/12m GTS3
Surf
Foil

can I foil there and will I need much more then that?

what else do I need to know?

I went in March (20th) and there was a lot of seaweeds in the water, I had difficulty riding with a normal surfboard at some point.

I think it's better in january/february from the local's comments.

we could see the big seaweeds islands from the airplane at this point.

BUT, There was Moses's hydrofoil stickers on the mirror at the bar of silverpoint hotel so i'm pretty sure some people had some great ride with hydrofoils there.

Maybe I went just too late in the year.

Regards.

Are your tickets already booked?
Which hotel are you going?

Your kite choices looks good tough, I had GTS3 9-12-15 with the surfboard in he picture (its a lightwind surfboard but pretty versatile) but as I said, wind should be better earlier.

I was directly at silverpoint hotel, The kite beach is right at the hotel.

Food at the hotel is efty, plan some nights at the fish market around the pier in oistin, they have generous plates for good price (you can eat two in 1 dish) And the taxis/bus is only 1USD/2BD and its a funny experiment to get in these bus with loud reggae music at night :P

There are also some small apartments that you can rent directly on the beach at the kite shop (de action kite) they rent surfboards and maybe kites as well, So if you are in the mood to cook, you can buy some food and cook yourself.

Wind is gusty on the beach because you are behind the "silver point" its often better when you go farther from the shore.

We heard there was another kiting spot called "long beach" but we did not go because people told us there was even more seaweeds there.

I've been going in January for many years and this was the only time I've seen seaweed. I'm assuming it was a freak bloom.

What's wind range? 12 M and higher ? Or more 9 M days?

Also what hours does it blow?

Thanks.

I have been to Barbados twice for the first 2 weeks of January.
I bring 13 m + 9 m + surfboard (72 kg rider). I have been lucky and only missed one day on the water. However, the last time I was there they had not kited for 5 days.
I did not notice any seaweed at the beach. The wave sets are some of the nicest I have seen to learn to surf real waves. If your foilboard skills are good then you are OK to foil. It gets deep quickly and the reef is about 300 m off shore. Best winds are usually early in the morning then later in afternoon. 80% 13 m 20 % 9 m. I am returning this January.
