Airline Baggage Info needed - South African Airways

Postby dracop » Sun Nov 08, 2015 5:59 pm

Hey guys travelling to Cape Town with my gear and wanted to know current SA Airways baggage. The page seems to indicate you get a free extra piece of baggage up to 200cm/23kg for kitesurfing gear. I have my super duper Double surf board bag that can hold all of my gear bt its a monster

Is this accurate? Seems generous. No answer at airline so thought I would reach out here for real world experience.

I brought home a large tt bag once as my second free bag. Print out that page and have it with you. I agree with your interpretation, but I'm pretty sure that counts as one of your two free bags.

Wrll I called and spoke to someone. They basically said sporting equipment flies free and that its a free extra piece if its sporting equipment, so three articles total. Unusually generous policy in thisbday and age but I guess they get alot of sportsman on their flights. Will teport back on final reaolution.

Woot! Just checked in at airport for my flight to South Africa. Both 50lb bags and an additional surfboard bag weighing 50lbs all flew with no additional charges. Three bags about 150lbs total. A littlenover but they didnt hassle me about it.

I hereby rate SAA as kiter friendly for those flying to CPT.
