Somewhere to go in January/february for a swede

Postby andeereyy » Thu Sep 08, 2016 9:05 pm

Looking for somewhere to go with a sweet vibe. If i would dream up a place it would look something like this: A windy place, you'd wake up expecting winds blowing around 20 knots most of the days, with the odd day wind reaching perhaps 30. A lagoon granting flat, shallow waters, shimmering blue. Outside the safe haven of the lagoon, waves roll in. Perfectly suitable for a beginner to practice ordinary surfing in, when one feels like laying the kite aside.

Evening falls and arms and limbs are tired after a day full of adventures. Enjoying a beer in your airBnB rented place you suddenly take notice of music in the distant, a driving pulse. You understand the people has congregated and you follow your feet to where, if god is willing, you will meet your future wife. Entering the party your are filled with gratitude as you see people conversating and genuinely enjoying eachothers company. In the corner of your eye you see someone rolling something that looks like a cigarette but you don't really know...

The question im asking is, is this place real? Does it exist? If so, can someone who is very very far from being financially independant go there?
BVI seems to be wounderful but ouch, expensive. I would need something relatively cheap.

Any inputs?

Maybe Colombia, most likely San Andres island...or Cuba, or Mexico....

And yes, Caribbean...but more expensive there.

Alternative could also be Puerto Rico...not cheap to stay though....

find spots of all mentioned places here http://se.kiteforum.com/spots

For January or February I would recommend you Brazil. You could com to Taiba in Ceara state. We have great winds with 20+ blowing every day.

You could stay in Pousada Blauset where we have our 4Elements Kiteschool, you are going to love it! Also you could do a downwind to some other places around!! Great spot dude!!

Let me know if you come!!!

Best regards

Matt

Hi! Looks interesting.. Whats the vibe like in taiba? Is it sleepy would you say? To meet some people when not out kiting would be lovely! Me, i want to celebrate life, listen to some good music, etc. haha :D

Still I dream of the carribean, does anyone know if there is any way to enjoy the carribeans paradisey blue waters on a budget? Whats the most affordable kite paradise available? :P

I have to disagree with Matt here.
While you could have good conditions in January, you could also have bad conditions.

I spend this January in Cumbuco (30 min from Taiba), and I had 1 (!) good session! Wind was light due to rain.

February is more likely to be bad, since it is more in the rainy season.

Other areas on the planet will be better for sure.
Taiba is good from June til end of December.
With a 50% chance of a good January.

Caribbean on a budget with steady wind - Cabarete. Not a lagoon but the reef keeps the inside relatively flat. Also not my choice for Jan/Feb but it would be my choice for July-Sept.

For Jan/Feb, have you looked at South Africa? Specifically look at Langebaan and Hermanus, with some trips to Cape Town possible.

Lagoon, budget friendly (flights expensive, cost of food, party, lodging, and car are all cheap), wind, friendly people, beautiful place, all check.

Cape town genuinely interest me, but Oh boy,the sharks. I am still a beginner and will probaly fall quite alot practicing jumps and so on, i envision myself teabagging acting as a shark lure. The thought of body dragging after board, ... oufff, i can already feel the anxiety...
I am terrified of the thought of me or my brother to becoming shark food.
If it werent for teh big ugly shark i would probaly have booked a ticket already... That's the bitter truth..

Langebaan is a lagoon about 45min north of Cape Town. The only sharks there are sand sharks (about 1/4 meter long).

Cape Town does have great whites, but mostly on the southern side of town. The NW side where the wind is rarely sees sharks. I only saw two great whites on the NW side the entire time I was there. Even if you cannot kite in CPT, the nightlife on the weekends is good. Langebaan is one of the ebst beginner spots in the world, I taught alot of people there and the conditions are perfect for early stage kiters. Google it - if you need recommendations feel free to PM me and I will put you in touch with my old school there.
