Absolutely no need for a wetsuit at Witsand. I really like the ocean side for strapless riding. The waves are less regular than Cape Town, more broken up like Cape Hatteras. I'm less into tricks, so only ride in the lagoon to watch the hotshots. Witsand often has a strong easterly when the SEaster quits for a day or two in Cape Town, so if you can face the long drive, it is worth it. A little further is Stilbaai, which also works on an easterly, but works better than Witsand on the alternative wind, a strong SWesterly. While the lagoon is too narrow there, it has a great right-hand break point for kiting the SWesterly. I kited both places twice in December and January this summer. Others love Struisbaai near Cape Agulhas, again best on an Easterly.
