Hey guys,

I have kited for the last 3 years and feel pretty confident on the twintip so now willing to go into directional and waveriding.
I will have 2 weeks in the beginning of Jan so thinking of going to Barbados so wondering if it is a nice place to learn waveriding?
Another advantage is that you can combine kite with surf.
However, will also welcome ideas for any other spots that are good to step into the waves for the first time.

Thanks!

For Kitesurf check out videos for Silversands in Barbados, it's in the south of the island, there are also surf spots on the east coast,

Barbados - Silver Rock Beach is an excellent spot to learn to ride waves in January. You want to get accommodation near Silver Rock.

the downside of barbados for learning is that if you drop your kite (which you will when learning waves, even if you NEVER do it on your TT) and can't relaunch in time, there is no rescue and the swim is very long with the current and the waves being a ways off shore. I know people that have lost their kite permanently.

I suggest places like south padre. it is more side on and you can do down winders and if you drop your kite you wash to shore in 5 minutes.

Thanks for details. I am not based in the US, so looking for a more "tropical" place for the trip. Do you know. Any other good wave spots in the Caribbean/Africa?

how about these guys? http://www.kitekahunas.com/wave-kitesurfing-camp.html

or Cabarete? or start a new thread 'where is the best place to learn waves'?' you're looking for no shallow reefs and either rescue service or if it goes bad you safely wash up on shore.

Thanks, I thought about Cape Town as well, but not really fond of wetsuits, so this is not funny first choice.
I will go and create a new thread then
