Kihei = South side , A shift to north in the wind funnels the wind to venturi between the west Maui mtns. and Haleakala increasing it as it reaches the south side .

I live on Maui and kite most days. The flatwater spot is Ka'a Point or Propool at the main beach Kanaha by the airport. there is no flat water on the Kihie side as far as I have found.

The main draw for Maui in the fall is that the waves on the North shore have returned. There is always chop and a little flat water at Ka'a Point. Kihie is all chop and no waves in the winter.

It is very windy most of the time. In the winter you can get 4-5 days of no wind in a row though. Other than those few dry spells, Maui is perfect.
