Fisherhaven / Bot River Lagoon

Postby rynhardt » Mon Feb 19, 2018 3:16 pm

There wasn't much wind in Cape Town this last weekend, but about an hour east of CT is a tiny little village called Fisherhaven, which is right next to the Bot River lagoon.
What an awesome flat water spot!
We had solid wind on Sunday - the Windguru forecast was pretty accurate too.

Access is easy and free. Just park the car and walk 50m down to the lagoon shore.
Launch area is OK. Some patches of grass, sand and dried mud. Enough space to park 4 kites on clean ground.
The water's edge is a bit muddy, with some algae/grass in spots. Also some submerged rocks.
But once your kite is launched you can walk about 20m into the lagoon to get in the clean water.

Another pic of the launch area.
Saturday was mostly westerly, very constant. W is cross-on, SW is cross shore at the launch.
Sunday was SW, a little bit gusty but not bad at all.
Water is fairly warm, I think a wetsuit isn't really necessary.
I wear a 3mm wetsuit in any case but more for Sun protection.

I had the privilege of sharing this spot with my man Rynhardt that day and it was awesome!
Big stoke, breuw, to put it that way.

The drive from Cape Town is beautiful in itself. It is 1,5 hours from Blaauwberg though.

Yeah we had a lekker sesh! If it wasn't for the forum we would never have met up!

Awesome to have a buddy when your kite has a slow leak and they lend you theirs.
Or your lines get dragged through the weeds and there's a helping hand for sorting out the mess.
Or your car keys go missing..

Good times! :D
Share the stoke :thumb:
