Seaweed (sargasso) 2018 a bad year

Postby Pana » Thu May 10, 2018 8:23 pm

If you plan travelling to the Carabean check the seaweed situation, I understand it is shaping up to be worse than 2015. I am in the leeward islands now and it is getting worse by the day. :oops:

Chek out these references;

This last site has acces to the satellite photos and seaweed density information collected by U of S Florida that can be overlaid on Google earth with general current patterns.

Play safe,

Serge

Oh man. This is bad. I was on Barbados 2015. Couldn't kite much. Stuff clogged up whole East coast too. Government there was calling it a national disaster...

I am in the VIrgin Islands at the moment, the sargasso is definitely here and starting to fill some of the Windward facing bays but it’s not a big deal yet. I was out on the foil and it was fine away from the shore, just need to go around some of the bigger patches. The foil seems to go thru the small patches ok without snagging
