I'm about to fly with Oman Air from Milan to Zanzibar and Oman Air states at many places on their website that golf bags travel free on all their routes to/from/through Muscat.
However, no maximum dimensions have been specified anywhere.. Has anyone traveled with them and can you get away with a board bag, checking it as "golf equipment"? They have restriction on checked baggage size - maximum 158 cm linear dimensions, not sure if that applies to golf bags.
Any suggestions and tips are more than welcome. Thanks!

So after some phone calls I can confirm that Oman Air is a NO-NO for any kind of large sports equipment... A CS agent confirmed that NOTHING over 158 linear centimeters (width + height + length) is allowed on their planes. The only option would be to send it via cargo...

I have met people on Zanzibar flying Oman Air via Muscat with their kite equipment. So it is (or at least was) definitely possible.
As far as I can see on their homepage (which is quite crap) you can bring "specialist baggage" which is bigger than 158.
"Any additional pieces above 20kg or 158cms is considered Specialist Baggage and will charged accordingly."
Or at least you can pay for it - doesn't say you can actually bring it onboard
Emirates got a ridiculously high overweight fee, but got to love how easy it is in terms of baggage allowance.
