I agree with you and it totally makes sense that a bigger wing can show stronger influence of water movement.
I feel that the better I know a wing the less difficulties I got to handle it in all sorts of less ideal conditions too.
On the other hand it is nice to have different wings (best case all known very well and all ridden frequently) to react on conditions with wing choice/change too.

The 590 I feel is the one wing of the current Moses portfolio basically any rider can take advantage of, no matter what other wings are in the quiver.

Foil,
Radical conditions today again in cabarete. People out on everything from 6m to 12m kites. Most on 7-8-9. Chop and waves bigger still. I watched my boy take a kite flying lesson and we rented boogie boards.
Local kite school owner told me conditions are radical for here.
Tomorrow I will rent a surfboard and I've screwed on the 550 again.
An experienced foiler has told me there's no magic. Big foil for light wind, smaller foil more wind. There will always be control problems with a big foil in over powered on 7m kite, gusty and choppy/waves.
I think the 590 will be really good in more manageable conditions.
These conditions are the toughest I've been in, and I've kited 16ms in Sweden that was easier.

I don't know which I prefer as when I bought the 558 in late summer I stopped using my 550 and can't remember how it compares, so as my next holiday is only 10 days away I will take all 3 wings and really give them all fair time on the water as long as the conditions permit.

I prefer the 550 mainly because it works very well with the 325 and the 558 dont, the 550+325 its my "everyday" foil and ive all 2017 moses wings.

I've been out 2 times now on the 550 here in Cabarete bay. Still squally, gusty variable winds and mega choppy, confused sea with 1m cross chop. Yesterday I was out on my 7m totally over powered, today from underpowered to overpowered.
The 550 is still the best for these conditions, which is what I would expect. I was hoping for light winds and small chop for the 590.
I'm still getting breaches / ejected by these weird chop coming off a upwind current going against the messy swell coming over the reef. Basically there's a wind from the east, swell from North East, current running from West along the bay, causing wind/ current chop buildup. A freaky mess...

After 4 sessions on the 550 here and getting used to the conditions, I took the 590 today with fully powered 9m Mono on 20m lines. Had depower strap all the way in too.
I've also become accustomed to my new board, and stance.

I have to say now it's a really good wing. It at low speed it stalls very gently and predictably. It flys up for the start very easy and predictably too. At speed it was easier to avoid breaches today, perhaps I had my stance sorted better and it was slightly less choppy than first session, but in absolute terms it was mega choppy today, so it handles chop and rough water well.

Roll stability is significantly higher than 550, but I was having fun playing with slalom turns and focusing on the roll.
I'm not that great at gybes yet, but I'm successful on 70-80% of them. Turning it really keeps speed and glide thru the turn without kite power, so if I fub the kite timing, it keeps flying. The roll stability makes the turns wider, but with a bit more aggressive techniques it turns pretty fast, I did some nice speedy toe to healside carves, and some turns onto wave/swell faces that were really smooth and Fast.
I almost did some flying foot changes, it has great lift and the balance point seems" wider ", and I'm starting to ride with feet close together to get the feeling for balance point.
At speed it's great, gets more stable. Seems to have same cruising speed as 550.

If you're learning get the 590. If you want more zippy turns and looser feel the 550.

I loaned it to a local kite instructor who has foiled 4 times and he was flying back forth really well. He came back after an hour with a huge smile, saying he loved it.

I've left it on, so I'll try a few more sessions on it before switching back to 550.

Hi Tom,

now that sounds better and more like what I expected to hear from you really.
Sometimes a new configuration needs some time to get used to, especially when the location is new too.
Keep going!

I tested SUP wings kiting lately.
Quite interesting.
They need their own fuselage though! But that fits the kite masts.

Cheers,
Frank
