Unless your door is 9ft long and made of 3in thick foam I highly doubt it will plane in less wind than a longboard!

Thickness has nothing to do with planing ability. It does only displacement when you sit on your board or submerge it.

Bottom surface area, rocker & stiffness on footpad pressure and board speed does have effect. Along with pads and fins how parallel to water surface you can drive your board. Splash / rooster tail = wasted energy throwing water to side.

The thickness and float of a surfboard keeps you higher displacing less water even when riding, not just when you’re sitting on the board.

Whether its planing, or just plain float, either way, as an extreme example- you can get around in light wind on a SUP with a 2m trainer kite for power, albeit slowly.

Sure...
Maybe we forgot to clearly state our initial requirement that the fun starts when your board is on the plane and you can go upwind

When you are at planing speed nothing else than bottom touches the water. Check for example Flysurfer Razor - a snowboard/twintip construction directional. It goes at surface like raceboards on fins without volume.

You might be talking moving longboard with 2m^2 trainer kite - I talk about riding with speed (= planing) like in my linked videos. And selecting correct speed due to wind window rotation to go upwind also in ultra light wind (= my term for single digit in knots, 6-9kn). And like my videos proof - I ride & plane nicely with foil kite and door when Turbines do not fly. They just sit in air. And when I cannot go upwind/maintain ground on my flydoor-setup I usually cannot plane - too light wind and I doubt I could even run my hydrofoil because I could not body drag to deep enough water.

About 2m^2 ability to haul you over the water. We fly our closed cell foilkites in 2-4 knots also when even open cell foils are not flying. I really doubt you could even have your trainer airborne on those winds yet to pull you upwind. Lower the wind smaller the effective wind window as kite goes deeper just to keep it's flying mass airborne.

Welcome to my world.. :)

So true - that is what it is all about, having "excess" upwind ability and speed, and preferably not too big a kite still obtaining this, so you can do all the fun stuff

Thus a SUP is useless, compared to all the alternatives...

Checking back in:
I have tried a cab plasma and it was great upwind, never tried monster door but looks good.
Still prefer directionals usually.
After riding my low volume minisimmons/potato copy (5’ x 22”) in light wind with great efficiency -(holding ground in 8 with 17, upwind in 9-10 knots at decent speed with 17, in 12 with 12m, in 14 with 9m etc) I found its shortcoming is I cannot paddle it well at all (approx 16L).
So I bought a 5’6”, 22” FireWire sweet potato that has 38L volume = easy to paddle, surf, kite.
Meanwhile still paipo foiling from 7-8 knots when the water is >1m deep.
If the sweet potato works out as I hope, I may reinforce it and mount a surf foil to it....
The quest is never ending!
