Ok, so I've been waiting for someone else to ask this, but what is new here?
Wakesurfing? Got about as much in common with kiteboarding as any other board sport. And I say this as someone who wakeskates, skateboards and occasionally snowboards.
I just assumed it was a video of him and his mates having fun on a non windy day. Good on you if you can find an alternative activity thats fun on those days!
2 types of “kitesurfing”. Unhooked, where once you are on the wave, you unhook, Park the kite and let it drift while you surf the wave. No transfer of power from the kite to the board. I think very few kiters ride this way.
The majority ride hooked in, with a mixture of “powered-up” and “drift”.
I’m trying to recreate the latter, or powered-up riding on a surfboard, which I love. This is very close to riding fully powered on a wave with a surfboard.
There’s wakeboarding, wakeskating, wakesurfing, this isn’t that. We’ve all seen video of tow-in surfing. This obviously isn’t that. I’ve never seen video of “surfing” under power behind a boat. I’m surprised it’s not a thing.
I don’t have access to a boat. Took me a couple of years to find someone willing to take me out. Had to find another lunatic willing to go along and also ride. This was shot in SF bay, so we had time it for high tide and glassy conditions. No wake tower, riding on a kite surf surfboard, strapless. Way too much board and fin. Felt like we were dragging an anchor through the water. Searched around for a wakesurf board, which would have worked waay better, but that was impossible to find on such short notice.
