Kite 7m for hydrofoil

Postby sspm » Sat Aug 11, 2018 3:29 pm

Hi! I'm thinking about getting a 7m Neo or Drifter to use for waves at high wind speeds. I'm wondering if I could also use it for hydrofoil at 10/11 knots. I'm light (68kg) and I think a 7m kite would pull me on a hydrofoil. I'm just not sure if these kites would keep flying at these windspeeds or if they would fall. I'm sure that a 7m north Mono would fly well since it is very light, but I was looking for a wave kite for good wave and wind conditions.
Thanks in advance

Ozone REO V4 in 7 or 6m will do the job...light, easy, will not pull you from the foil etc...try to test it before you buy :thumb:

Hi

I just had 4 sessions on my new Conceptair Wave 6,5.

If you consider a foil kite, this is a good option.

In few words.
Insane wind range
Quite powerful (gets me going in 11 knots with 108kg net, Zeeko Alloy Foil with Carver wing)
If you drop the kite it starts almost automatically and “jumps” out of the water.
Very light, so very good drifting. Even in lighter winds it only runs out of power but never backstalls. Just let go the bar and wait a second and it start pulling again.
Small packing

Negative:
High bar forces required
Generates power by flying speed. If you are not used to foils it needs some adjustement in your skills.

Neutral:
No race kite. I got it up to 40km/h without any aim to find the top end of my equipment. Just as an orientation.

I guess any wave kite in 7 m should do the job for you. My choice is the SS SST.

Depending on the type of foil, quality of wind (10-11 knots means different things at different locations) and your skills those kites should work for you. Lighter the kite, easier it will be to fly it in those winds, however pretty much all kites should fly well in 10-11 knots.
I liked Reo a lot, but never tried 7m size. Switch Helium is an interesting option ($)
