The Mythical One-Kite Quiver

Do you know any kiters that have pulled off "the one-kite quiver"?

I am 140lbs and I have a one-kite-two-board quiver that has got me covered from 12mph-18mph on my skimboard, and 18-27ish mph on my Slingshot 122 board, all with my lone 9m Waroo. Gotta love those SLE kites.

Actually, what is the point of having one kite quiver?

Yes, everybody can have one kite quiver if you are not demanding to much. If you are out only few times in a year, I guess that one kite is pretty much enough.
But if you want to develop, be sprtive, be out in high and low wind, take waves and flatt water, but go out also in choppy water, you cant even dream to have one kite set. with one kite it's always compromise.


If you want to get the most out of kiteboarding you have to go few kite /few board quiver.

I don't think you can have a one kite quiver with SLE, flat, bow kites only.

I have two kites, here my ranges:

16: 14-30
12: 16-35 knots

With a 128x39 board, 93kg
I could have one kite only a well.

But it also depends what you want to do with your gear. You couldn't do unhooked stuff with one kite only in this wind range, or wave riding.
If you want to go big, then it works.

I have a "one kite must make do quiver"

100kg with one 12m flat kite and 2 boards. (130 twin tip and a wave/skim board)

It's all about adjusting your riding style to suit the wind

In light wind I ride waves
In moderate wind I practice tricks and ride more waves
In strong wind I just boost to the moon!

I've missed one day so far when the wind was very strong and the launch a little bit too dodgy for my liking. (High tide and most of the beach had disappeared)


Ideally I'll admit I'd like another smaller kite, but I can't justify it for the extra couple of days a year it would get me out.

I have a good 1 kite quiver if you want to cover a 10-18 knots range. It is a Contra 19,5m². And I sell my all quiver for 200€. That is a good deal!

Heck - I think Mulholland has a zero-kite quiver, and it doesn't seem to slow him down one bit.

I have 2 kites quiver:

16: 10 to 24 Knots (95% of the days)
10: 19 to 33 Knots (5% of the days)

And 2 twintip boards: 132x38 and 140x46

So i could have a one kite quiver easily....

A one kite quiver is a bad idea for several reasons.
Nothing against who has to make do due to budget reasons.
For safety reasons you want to ride the right size in the right conditions.

Most depowerable kites become less stable when fully depowered so the extended range should not be abused. You can fly them at the top of their windrange, but don't expect to fly them anywhere as well as a smaller kite.

Also when something goes wrong... invertions, slow leak in the bladder after a crash, partial bridal damage etc you want to avoid having exess kite in the air.

A depowered kite is not as much fun as flying a smaller powered up kite.

All fair points Fred, but for example in my case my old quiver was

16m (80% of the time)
12m (20% of the time)

Now I'm

12m (100% of the time)

So now I'm actually safer
