Toes scratched open by front footstrap

Postby Zen » Tue Sep 21, 2010 12:50 pm

Hi there,

Everytime I ride my surfboard my toes are scratched open by the front footstrap.
I don´t know if this is due to my riding style or the quality of the strap, maybe you can tell me.

I ride a Best thruster 6`0 with factory straps. My toes are scratched by the strap where it hasn´t got any neoprene cover (go figure what impact this has on your skin ) See attached pictures for my strap and stance.

Do I need other straps, and if so which, or are the straps perfect and do I have to change my stance?

Thanks!

Aloha, Jasper

Either get the rotating strap advertized in a banner in this forum, or (my choice) get rid of the strap all together: you may have a little trouble the first two times out, but by the third strapless session you will never put them back on!

Go strapless. I thought the whole strapless thing was a bit of a "show off thing" or whatever.
You know riding strapless just becasue you can..... . Pretty supid on my behalf.

Well I'm a slow learner, but strapless riding was so addictive for me. It's liberating and so much better for your feet and legs.

Hi, thanks for the already added reply´s!

Here in the netherlands we have a choppy sea and short waves, strapless will ask a lot of my human suspension 8). As a former windsurfer I have a agressive riding style, with a occasional jump, for which I like my straps. The straps come off in nice conditions, as I realy like the freedom of switching while riding strapless. So.... I´m still looking for good straps.

Just took a good look to the part that is responsible for this issue, seems my toes hit the inner stap in which the mounting holes are burned (see picture) . No wonder it hurts....

Cheers!

Adam Koch straps made by NSI are very nice directional straps.

They have a nice smooth attachment .

Obvious nothing wrong with my stance since no critics are posted :D

Hmmm the Cabrinha's haven't been pointed out to me, sound interesting...

I've narrowed my options to:
- DaKine Vario (http://www.dakine.com/kite/footstrapsde ... footstrap/)
- Cabrinha Surf Strap (http://www.cabrinhakites.com/surf-strap-2010.html)
- North Directional (http://www.northkites.com/public/conten ... x_eng.html)

What are the differences for these in feel/performance?

Cheers!

I think it's a sign that it's time to lose those straps

Before you go and buy new straps or rotating straps ty turning your front strap (left foot) anti clock wise by about 10 degrees and your back foot strap (right foot) clock wise by 5 degrees so you end up with more of a duck stance with your feet pointing out the way.
You can only do this if your board has two rows of screw holes.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your replys. This weekend conditions were epic in the Netherlands, unreal waves!
I adjusted the front strap, making it one screwhole less wide and at the front side I narrowed it to the second mounting hole. Now my toes are not rubbing to the inner webbing any more.
I took my 7m and had the best session of this year, without pain in my toes :)

The straps remain to be poor quality... When leaving the beach a fellow surfer mentioned the Dakine straps to me, which looked and felt very fine and I immediately bought :-?

So, thats it... I'm happy again 8)

Cheers!
