Hey Sector heads,

was hoping for a big favor on a build project this winter..
I know this should be in the builders forum, but not a lot o viewers over there.

I'm building a sector type board and would love some measurements that i cant seem to find online, and there are no sectors in my area to take them off of.

My project will most resemble a 60, a little narrower, so if you have any version of the S60 that would work great. even off the 53 would work as well.

Here are the measurements im looking for, inches or cm's are fine, I can deal with both.

- Board Thickness - ideally, mid board, 1/4 up from tail, 1/4 back from nose.
- Rocker- (laying flat on a table/floor) distance from flat surface up to nose/ up to tail,
- Fins, Distance from tail to back of rear finbox, to back of forward finbox.
- front foot straps, distance from tail to back of forward footstrap.

if you're really into it,

- concave length & depth.

first, take a straight edge, and find where the concave starts by sliding it back from the nose of the board, held perpendicular to center line, and watching for a gap to open between the straight edge and the board around the center line. Measure distance from the tail to that point.

Next, slide the straight edge back the board and try to pick the spot where the concave is the deepest, should be just behind the forward straps. My understanding is the board has a double concave, so your straight edge will be touching a ridge running down the centerline and the outside rail. Hold a ruler perpendicular to your straight edge and measure the gap (concave) at its deepest point.

That should do it.

Thanks very much in advance to anyone who wants to help me out.

smooth kiting everyone!

Thanks all once again for your inputs!

Next week I will try the V3 60 with both a Lithium 2012 LW 14m and the VXR 18m, so I will get a better idea.

Good point regarding extended lines, I will give that a try too! That seems to tilt the balance more towards the 54, as eventually I could swap to a 4-fins configuration in really light days as suggested... let's see how my first contact with the V3s go :)

All the best from a sunny Dubai!

- how would you compare the turning/manouverability of the abovementioned boards?
- I have to learn to jibe: is the V3 60 board difficult to learn on?

Thanks again in advance!!!
No sure if anyone tried to answer this directly...
- V3 60 is more efficient than the V2 (one design). It slips through the ware noticeably more easily, but it can be said that it is more technical to ride, though I did not think so.. compared to a race board the are so much easier!

- the turning and manoeuvrability is almost the same though the V3 is more efficient and seems not to scrub off speed in carve as much as the V2 does..

- learning to gybe is easy with a few pointers, and both boards are as easy as each other. Perhaps the V2 is a little more solid underfoot, but it's of marginal help - only when you really are in the first few minutes of learning...

What is interesting is that you can change fins on the V3 to change how the boards handle. I found 3 fins works better in chop and 4 fins in very light and flat water.. It also changes how they feel underfoot.. a personal preference thing more than right and wrong...

enjoy!

Hi Mike!

This is the kite I used, I don't honestly know if it's a prototype - I can ask.

Thank you so much for the answers, this will help me a lot in deciding which board to buy! :thumb:

Fascinating to hear about these light wind locations. Are you saying that these 6 - 10 kt winds are steady enough that you don't have to worry about lulls that will result in the kite falling out of the sky?

In these super light winds, is there really any advantage in a de-tuned "free-ride" board rather than a full-on race board design? In wind that light you are surely entirely dependent on apparent wind for power, so powered jibing wouldn't be much of a factor - in fact, the trick would be keeping the kite flying when your board speed drops off during the turn?

... we have tropical winds which are very guttless and I've managed to ride in 6 - 11 knots on a V2 60 I imagine the newer ones (V3's) are just as capable:

Anybody have any idea how a Cabrinha 178 raceboard (their "high wind & chop" raceboard) would compare with a Sector 54 or 60?

Nice vid,
enjoyed that!
you do well with such little wind. The 60 V2 is a good board..
I was out on mine yesterday, not quite as idyllic a location but fun none the less!

Hope some people will find this information useful:

I was kiting at South Padre Island (SPI) last week and used the Sector V2 60 for two light wind days. There are leaves of seaweed that float around in the water there. Some windsurfers use a "weed" fin (I think that is what they call it) when at SPI. This fin is swept back so the the leaves will flow off the fin. Well, I found the seaweed leaves building up on the fins of the Sector. So what seemed to work is to do any kind of trick to get the fins out of the water. I did little pops, back rolls, jumps, olles. Anything that would get the fins out of the water for a moment would allow the leaves to drop off.

Not sure how common this problem in across the world when deep fins are used.

BTW: Just so you have an idea of how often the buildup occurred. One day was worse than the other. On one day, the buildup of leaves was about every 15 minutes to half hour. The other day it was worse. The buildup happened every 5 to fifteen minutes.
