2Elements in Vieux-Fort St-Lucia: looks like it's closed?

Postby Pascale » Thu Jan 10, 2013 5:40 am

Hi,

According to their web site:

We are currently closed after having our lease to operate cancelled.

Anyone has been there recently and who could tell us more?

What about The Reef? Is it walking distance from Coconut Bay Resort?

Thanks

This is true 2 elements is no longer operating out of Coconut Bay. However the hotel has taken over the day to day operations of the kite school and re-opened on Dec 01. There is a $15 a day fee to kite out of this location which includes boat rescue and equipment storage along with use of the restrooms and showers. You can also kite out of the reef which is a 15 min walk from the resort.

I wouldn't consider the Reef within walking distance of Coconut Bay if you are carrying gear.

Does anyone know what happened to 2Elements or who is running their current operation?

Thanks.

All I know is what I read on Chris Haysey FB page (dated July 27):
Banded from the Hotel because a stray Dog jumped in the pool and Security blamed "Snoop"

Snoop is his dog I think.
Maybe that's why, I don't know.

It sucks if you have to pay 15 bucks a day.

Would you say that kiting at The Reef's beach is easier for a beginner than kiting at CBR's beach?

Thanks again.

No, The Reef has a much narrower beach and a small shore break that can cause beginers problems. You are much better off at the CBR school as it is protected by a reef and therefore has nice flat water. The fee to kite is really not that bad, this includes secure storage for all your gear, which is worth it just for that as the walk from the resort is a good 8-10 min depending on which side and floor of the resort you are staying in. Boat rescue is also included as well as use of all the facilities like compressor (new this year), bathrooms, showers, beach chairs. Also part of your fee pays for insurance and staff.

If you really don't want to pay then your only option is to kite off the point close to the Reef but I would not suggest that since you are a beginner I will be there for 2 weeks starting Jan 26, this will be my fifth time returning.

Beginner lessons are OK at the Reef as you can end up at the bottom of a sandy beach bay.

If you are staying at the Coconut bay resort then I would probably kite there.

I wouldn't do the walk with gear between the two kite spots.

The Reef as less expensive options for accommodation.

Ian

Thanks for the tips, guys.

Yes, we'll be staying at CBR so I will kite there.

I just can't wait! (15 sleeps to go!)

Coconut Bay Resort decided to launch a kite school themselves and basically made sure that Chris could no longer operate. He mentioned that the resort made it "very" clear that he was no longer welcome. It is a shame since the spot was great and he was a super nice guy.

He actually had a KITEAID Repair Center set up right on the beach to help anyone with equipment failure. http://www.kiteaid.com/2elements

I was there last year to get married up in Cas en bas and it was beautiful!
Have a great trip!
