Can anyone offer an opinion on Aruba for June-August. Wind speed, conditions and where to stay. Thanks much Teabird

Hey Teabird,

We spent 5 months in Aruba, absolutely loved it, and can’t wait to get back! The big hotels are a short walk to the Fisherman’s Huts where there is flat water kiting. It’s offshore, a bit gusty but the water is pure glass. There are lots of schools in this area.

The other side of the island (Boca Grande) is our favorite as it’s not touristy and there are normally only a handful of kiters there. There is a reef protecting one side of the bay and waves in the other side. You’ll need a car to get to this spot.

We stayed at the Sea Breeze Apartments which were clean, nice and 1 block from the beach. They had a small swimming pool, a nice garden area, and are outside of the tourist area. The only downside was they didn’t have hot water (maybe that’s changed now) but the weather was so hot it didn’t really matter. We don’t spend much time inside, so it worked for us. These apts are closer to Boca Grande, which is also why we like them, but you’ll definitely need a car if you stay there. All depends what kind of place you’re looking for.

Wind is generally strongest in June-Aug.

Lots of places to stay from big hotels to apts that some of the schools have. It depends on how you want to do it.
Tea bird said it well.
It should be pretty windy daily except for when you get to August. It's a great place and it's pretty safe everywhere.

The wind can turn off in the later part of August. I would try to get down there before then if you can. I would plan on renting a car to be able to drive to Boca Grande and around the island. With that staying in the northern, more populated part of the island is realistic. You will want to kite the offshore winds at the Huts as you are there. It wasn't a great spot for me with all the lulls on a shorter board & C kite but with a larger bow kite, conditions permitting, it might improve. Is anyone doing sea taxi down there yet off the north end of the island?
