Axon 5'8" quad fish or Naish Global 5'10"?

Postby Manuel V » Sun Jan 20, 2013 1:10 am

I wondering if someone already owns or try the axon 5'8" that can give me his feedback.

http://www.axonkiteboarding.com/58-quad.php

Is a "fish" but is only 18" wide...............
I also saw a picture of the fins and they look bigger than normal FCS fins.

I'm 5'8" 160 lbs and considering between the axon 5'8" and a Naish global 5'10" both 2012
I have a great offer on any of this two boards...............
I want a surf kiteboard to ride 2 to 5 feet waves. I read great reviews on the global but I don't know if 5'10" it would be to big for me. I think that probably the global 5'8" would be better for my size and weight but the offer is on the 5'10".

any recommendations are welcome.

I do not think the 5'10 would be too big, especially for those waves too. The size is as much about the general outline of the board as it is just length.

The big difference between those boards I think is the outline, and that the global has five fin boxes.
The axon has fish outline, and the global has a straighter outline. The global is a pretty wide tail (it is all relative) makin it a great all round board IMO...but ready for some powered ripping.

I have not ridden the axon board, so I cannot compare the boards.

Tautologies,

Thanks for your comments,

Just to be clear 2 to 5 feet "face" waves, so relative small to head high waves
not 2 to 5 "hawaiian" feet, you know what I mean...........

The comment on 5'10" size is because I'm relative short and light at 5'8" 160 lbs and
The global would be taller than me.
For paddle surf for 2 to 5 feet face waves I use 5'6" to 5'10" boards.

Sure I was assuming. It does depend a little on how you like to ride, but a complete surfing feel (disengage kite) with either of these board in 2 feet waves will not work. In addition it will depend a little on how the wave is shaped etc. at 5 feet the global will excel. if you have a slow wave..ride it thruster, if you have a faster wave ride it quad. I also love to bump and jump that board. I think the 5'10 is the board of choice for Jaloo in the ksp.

If your wave is always a sloppy one, see if you can check out the 5'4'' skater (no straps required)

2 in higher than your height used to be a rule of thumb when the board were a little slimmer...like the global. I do not think the board will be too big, but I am heavier than you and there are a lot of other factors to be considered...such as how do you ride :-)

Tautologies,

I have a North Nugget that I use now in 1-2 feet and as a LW board.

I run boards with straps and I' m looking for another board (all around) for the 2-5 feet range.

As my first option I was thinking on buy a North whip 5'6"x18 1/4"x2.16"
(the local Dist. have in stock only the Whip 5'8"x18 3/4")
As second option I was thinking in a Firewire hellfire 5'6"x19"x2.18" that have the advantage
of set up as thruster or quad :thumb: but came with no straps or pads (and no bag)
The problem is that I can't demo any of the 5'6" boards.
From the first hand I don't consider any 5'4" or 5'5" like the Whip or Global
Because I think they would be to short.

I can demo a 5'8" Whip. But the 5'8" is the biggest Whip so I think that probably
would fit better bigger and heavier riders than me. I don't know if I'm wrong.

This weekend I receive and offer on the 2012 Axon 5'8" and the global 5'10" that I can save good money. But I don't want to save money and buy a board that don't work for me.

By otherhand I know that I would not find the "perfect" board from the first try, that this is a curve of progression, adapt and learn. That is the reason that I was considering the global 5'10" I hear a lot of good feedback from that board..........

This is definitely key!!! :-)

Well, if you already have a board for the smaller stuff, and you want something for a little more aggressive riding, I think the straighter outline on the global will be a good one. It will definitely be surfy once it hits the 3+ foot, liking a slightly sharper wave. I like the globals a lot, I had the 6'0'' moving down to the 5'8'' this year not because it was too big by any means, but I just want one board for really powered stuff, since I am *well* covered otherwise :-)

That said, it seems to me that you know enough about boards. The one thing that is no doubt though is that the global build is really good. The fins that comes with the board are high end..not the $30 plastic fins that will break... The quad is a m5 front, and I think regular sides for the back pair. I think it is a great starting point for powered riding that doesn't lock you completely in. :-)

Yes Naish OEM fins are not the cheap fins that normally
you receive when buy a new board from other companies.

I have the FCS Slater K2.1 5 fin set (quad or Thruster) and other fins sets
that I would like to try with the global. :thumb:

Thanks for your feedback...........................
