I'm kind of pissed that Airush and Naish are ripping off BRM's design that has been in the works for a long long time and passing it off as original. Hopefully, people will stick by and support a truly independent brand that makes great gear but doesn't have the ad budgets of the major companies.

Did you leave the lines "on" the Cloud 17m2kite...ready to go....just like you do with SP3 21

Gotta get on the water ASAP .... :pump: :surf: .........................................................................................
No I didn't leave it on :nono2:
since I borrowed a 65 cm Cabrinha Bar with 22m lines

DrLW

That is a wide bar and short lines......my 19 has 52 cm bar on 27m lines...and kite turns supra EZ

If i was a company and i sent a kite to demo i would make sure i send a specific bar/lines with it

Furthermore it would arrive to customer already attached to kite and tuned to fit 90% of people
...similar to when you buy / get a new kite from Flysurfer

Hi Osprey1,

Don't be upset. I think accusing airush of ripping BRM off is a bit hasty. especially if it only takes you a few seconds to search this forum about the airush "no strut" batkite that someone took spy pictures last year or even if you had a chance to ride the airush one that came to market in 2011 to see how much that company has been working with reduced strut designs.

Greg and BRM do make great gear, ive been a fan of his stuff for awhile and wouldn't mind getting my hands on a cloud or a zero for my spot! demos demos demos! :)

Who invented the wheel?
Roll on, I say...
A bunch of people have played with strutless kites for a while, Greg's is first to market, that's a bold move. Time will tell which ones work best and for what purpose.
So far I only have two questions,
how bad does it stick to the surface when down in light wind?
(not too bad according to Dr LW)
and
can it catch you in a loop?
-Loops seen so far seem to stop at 1000 (3/4 of a loop) but hard to say if that is rider input or design
Toast, anyone?

Hope to try it out myself sometime soonish (the relaunch bit at least)...

i think i beat you all in 2003 when i pumped up my 18m x2 with my mouth (no way i could get a pump) , nearly passed out, gave my middle finger to the struts and had a mean session on a 1/2 floppy kite lol

bring back mylar leading edges....... my kites are like 5 times bigger than they used to be - could fit my freeair in the bottom 1/5 of my backpack back in the day

i got a wipi classic - no delam at all.

You are right, I shouldn't be hating as a good design just helps progress the sport. It will be quite interesting to see where kites are in 10 years. Will the even be made of ripstop any more or have a tube leading edge? Will the idea of spectra lines be thing of the past? It'd be cool to see a kite that could be configured into different sizes

I'm surprised no one has posted this vid which shows the looping and jumping ability of the kite:

From what I've read before, I would trust your reports on the Cloud.
The two wind readings I am most interested in is the wind where it will sit directly overhead without working it and the minimum relaunch wind.
I have found both are the same for my 13m Xbow.

The overhead one is one where it would be very easy to compare kites side by side. It could even be done on a beach and the two kiters could walk upwind or downwind to give an idea of what difference in windspeed was necessary to keep the two kites overhead.

For the relaunch, is it a normal relaunch by pumping two offset rear lines and then launching the kite off its side or have you tried rolling it over into the hot launch position and pumping it into the air?

This is what I would call a normal light wind relaunch, although it would be better done with a large twintip on your feet.
Sorry, I was waiting for the wind if I could give more testing report,
but no wind no success :duh:
The relaunch was normal and quick through the one of the rear line launching on its side,
just like on the video.
I didn't try hot launch on the trailing edge or reverse launch,
because I was interested riding the kite more than relaunching aspect.

The good news is that at the end of half an hour test,
I had a couple of gusts 12 - 13 mph and pulled like a truck,
appears to be with a higher bar pressure than my Speed3 Foil kites :?:

One of my friend will continue the test next week when the wind will become favorable.
He is a creditable good test flyer who lofted a 100 feet, flown over the highway
meanwhile he was able to redirect the kite and landing safely at a beach #4 picture from top HERE!
