An extremely sad day for the Montreal's kite community, these who can read French - check out the local forum:
http://kiteforum.ca/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7491
The exact details and the cause of death is still unknown, other kiters have spotted a death-looping kite, found a boater and went to rescue, but it was too late. The kiter was still attached to the chicken-loop (F-One), that's the most we know at this point.
It was a very dangerous day for beginners and even for experienced riders.
RIP

So sad, I just read a french site translated and I think it was saying the rider was stuck in a violent deathloop and was unable to release.

Very very sad outcome...deepest sympathy
From what i read in the French forum:
One person says that he should not have kited at that exact spot...should have gone more south of it
Way too gusty on a strong West wind direction...and very difficult to get rescued
He was kiting alone
As he got blown offshore with kite looping constantly he drowned
They tried to revive him for 10 minutes but to no avail...his lungs were too full of water
Investigation still going on as the exact cause of this tragedy

Well, go to begin with it happened on one of the major Montreal's kite spots, so the kiter wasn't alone.
We still don't know the name or the exact cause of the accident, but the known facts start from somebody noticing a death-looping kite out in the lake, and apparently it was already going on for some time before getting any attention from other people. Upon rescuing the kiter, the guys performed CPR procedures on him without much luck, then upon getting back to beach the Ambulance took over, but it was just too late.
