I've had the Paipo out a few more times. It is a very addictive board for sure...

How does the upwind on the Paipo compare to a surfboard?

I have no problems going upwind on it for sure.
I have not really considered it. I would assume the surfboard goes better upwind simply because of the fins, but I really do not know..there are so many variables I find it hard to say. I'm kind of thinking it could be compared to a very big TT in terms of upwind...so if you go in light winds you have less fins resistance, but a surfboard might be bigger with more volume. When ever it is windy the board goes great upwind. Comparatively I think it is hard to say.
To say it this way. Nothing with the board has had me think it does not go upwind fine. Great for lightwind too..

you can ride it really slow and point pretty high so it feels like you get upwind fast. on surfboard I tend to go faster but not point as high. I think in light wind Iprobably get upwind a bit faster on the paipo than my larger (but not huge) surfboard.
It is way better than a normal twin for upwind in light air but much worse than a raceboard!

Anyone tried their kite going down the line? I am really curious to try it in more wind and waves. Today we had huge surf, but not enough wind for the 8..

Hey Taut - How would you compare the 8m with your other kite experience in terms of power? I ride an 11m Ozone Edge in flat water most commonly (I weigh 165 lbs) and am wondering what size Cloud would replace that?

It seems powerful. I have not tried it side by side and I don't know the kite you are referring to too well but since it is a race kite I would assume it is powerful. I think the closest would be the 10...but I am not 100% sure.

Thanks Taut - I am at a bit of an impasse due to the suggestion that they are 2 sizes more powerful than strutted kites, and perform at their best when correctly powered.

Yes, I have with the 17M Cloud, it drifted perfectly and it was blowing 12 mph, the waves were 2-3 ft. I was on a 6 ft surfboard and I weigh 185. I just got the 13M Cloud, can't wait to try it on the surf, I'll report back on it when I do.
