Toby, which size of the board do u have now?

Postby Imba » Thu Jun 20, 2013 4:43 pm

Hello mate!

1. Quick question here: Wht size of the board (and what board) do you have now?

2. Ive heard a lot that "the smaller the board - the easyer it to ride on heavy wind\with big kites".
Right now i use 136cm board from FutureKiting. And for my weight (85 kilo) - seem liek its kinda "too big" for airstle on big kite. Because right now its kinda heavy teask for me to ride on my 14m Switchblade when gusts run over 20-22knots.

So, from your advices i think i need to try (thbe buy?) a smaller board.
But "how far" should i go? What kind of board can you reccomend in terms of size. 100cm? 120cm? 130cm?

Of course i will try to text as many "smaller than current 136cm boards" to many up my own opinion. But what do you think? What size i should lloking for?

And it there any potential disadvantages which i may find if i will chosse and buy "too small" board?

I still ride my Flyboard Radical S 128x38.
I have 93 kg.

The smaller the board, the more powered your kite can be.

Important for me is also the weight. The smaller, the lighter most of the times, but that will be a disadvantage for e.g. Kick flips. The wind will take it away.

Important are also big straps. I see many riders with problems getting back into the straps.
Once I show them how huge mine are, they make them bigger and then land the boardoffs easier.

Toby did you ever tryed new North Dyno 2013? They have 16-17-18-19m. What is your opinion?

By the way can you even say that you did test\try a lot of different big-sized kites, and you "choose" the DYNO?

Or will it be more correctly to say that you ust "have it" (out of somewhere) from the beggining and just get used to it (and didnt actually test a lot of different models)?

no, I just have one board only.
Either it works, or it doesn't!
I can stay upwind in 9 or 10 knots with it...and the fun starts at around 14 knots.

I tried the 2012 Dyno 17 and 15, and they didn't come close to the 2011.
And since the development went more towards racing for the Dyno, I am sure 2013 is also not anywhere near the 2011.

But I do want to try other kites during the worldcup in Germany, which hosts world's biggest demo event. In about 2 weeks.

It will be very interesting to hear ur opinion about other potentially good kites for AirStyle.

Because right now... findin a DYNO 2011 is close to impossible. And the situation wont get any better.

For example the idea of doinf AirStyle jumps (not even tricks) on 16m and 18m X-bow (2013) is failed completely. Its a pure rasing & "not-for-jumps" kite.

So yeah, i think a lot of people would like to hear your test of kites especially from the AirStyle potential point of view...

trust me, I will make sure to keep Airstyle alive, to make sure people are able to enjoy what I enjoy, and also for the people just watching.
The feedback is amazing positive, so there is a need for such products. Also for the microhook!

If there are no option one day anymore, I will start offering my own products to keep it going.
There will be no Airstyle on my level and even higher without the right gear!

For kites the Flysurfer foils are great for Airstyle, since they have the lift and float, plus being slow, therefore calm in the air. The only problem is for the 19 and 21, that they turn too slow for tricks where a kiteloop is required, like the Jesus Walk.

For tubekites I need to test now.

By the way, ive tryed to check most of the kite manufacturers so far (and their 2013-2014 model lines).

Maybe im wrong, but in terms of "shape" the closest one to the North DYNO is Slingshot TURBINE.

http://www.slingshotsports.com/kite/pro ... 13-turbine

Ever tryed it? What do you think? Am i right, it kinda look-alike...

uber slow does not mean not good !

I fly my 18 on the inner bar connection to make it even slower!

You want it fast? You won't land 666 tricks.
