I am looking for my first kite surfboard. I need a board that will be alright carving in the light wind conditions of Bintan (10 - 15 knots) but will also be ok in chop, small to medium sized waves at slightly higher wind ranges. I am 5'10", size 9 uk feet and (*cough cough*) a princely 85 kgs.
I have been offered an excellent deal on a 2013 Brunotti 'Wave' board by a friend of mine our local dealer. The 'wave' is Brunotti's 'allround' kite surfboard and sits between the lightwind 'fish' and the big wave 'gun.' As its the jack of all trades board it seemed the best choice for what I am looking for. However, I am unsure which size of board to go for the 5'8" or the 6'2".
Available sizes and dimensions of the Brunotti Wave
============================================
5'8" x 17 1/3" x 2 3/16" 23.1L
6'2" x 18 1/8" x 2 1/4" 28.1L
As you can see it looks like there is quite a jump between the 5'8" and the 6'2". I fly F-One Bandits(8m, 11m and 14m) also I have a 17m Zephyr so whichever board I go for I should be covered kite wise. Its ease of use and fun I am more interested in. Will the 6'2" be too big to throw around get upwind? Will the 5'8" be too small because of my weight and get bogged down in lightwind conditions or be difficult to get going?
Any advice on which size to take? Should I go smaller or bigger?

Doesnt matter how GREAT a deal it is.. It its the wrong board for your size you will hate it.
What do you weigh? If you are in Clydesdale division, then you cant listen to anyone who is under 210 Pies. I tried that and its nothing but frustrating.
You may have to go Custom if you are big.

I'm 15kg lighter and have used four different boards (5'2", 6'0", 6'3", 6'5") over the years. I ride mostly strapless, my favorite length has been 6"3' so far. My next board I plan to get will be 6'2" so I would personally go for the longer one but in the end its all down to personal preference and past experience.

from the specs the small one sounds more like a board for heavy conditions with your weight.
if nobody here knows the boards and can help i would write to brunotti directly.

With your weight, and the windrange you describe, you should go with the 6'2 no doubt at all
Enjoy the waves

Demo and see for yourself. I like smaller and find big boards hard to ride but many feel opposite. If no place to demo ask your buddies to let you try there boards.
