At all times when kiting you are responsible even during launching and landing. You could have always punched out and wrapped up before coming into the beach.

On another note this reminds me of a certain island in the Pacific where localism is fervent, if you are a tourist visiting there the local kiters will tell you to "launch/land it yourself." Though it's not the most friendly attitude it probably keeps the crowds away. All kiters should be comfortable self launching and landing no matter the beach or wind.

You're responsible for your kite, at all times. If you can't deal with that, then find another sport dude.

Well -- your NOT gonna Thank me for This :

If you show up at Mohave and ask Me to land Your kite ...
i'm going to tell you to pull your QR and leave Me alone !!

Usually i land a kite and stand there till the owner comes to deal with
his own equipment ; i will NOT be responsible for their stuff .
And if a thermal comes down the beach to snatch away kites, i'll be diving
on MY kite, NOT yours !!

The unwritten rule that i'm observing more and more around various spots is that when people catch your kite - they wait for either:

a)for you to give them a sign to flip the kite and put it down

or

b)for you to come up and to take care of your kite by your-self

While practicing for a few years in various spots around the world the landing procedure that the original poster has described, it pretty much came down to a lander holding the kite by the leading edge until the rider will run up and take it out of the lander's hand. Trying to manipulate, yet alone - to flip somebody else's kite while controlling your own is simply too dangerous for both of you. If while flipping kite's tip catches on your steering line and you both are gone.

Yes, you are responsible for your own kite, but when you agree to launch or land someone, it is a commitment, or a 'personal contract' to complete the job. If launching, that can mean giving them a launch, making sure they're good to go, and around here we generally try to get their board for them and make sure they get safely on the water. It's also a good idea to give a visual check of the bridles and lines on the kite end because the pilot is far away and may not be able to see a tangle.

When landing a kite, the job of the 'kite catcher' is not done until there is a board on the kite to secure it. I have seen many screwups and a few injuries because the catcher flipped the kite over and walked away from it. I had one friend who was winding his lines when the kite took off and he got dragged by his fingers which cut them up pretty bad.
Kite handling and assisting with launching and landing should be learned before ever flying a kite.
Happy Kiting!

yep 100% your fault. why? you obviously did not give proper instruction to the lander.

Me. If someone is landing my kite. As soon as the lander has grabbed my kite and the line tension is lost I run to the kite and take control. The lander typically just has enough time to put the kite le down.

If you had done this you would have been able to secure your own kite.

land each others kites. Easy enough, then you can benefit from the experience of riders

Just like last poster said you should not be kiting if you cant be fully responsible for anything that happens to the kite you inflated and attached the lines and bar too then hooked to your harness to simple. Bet you lost a friend over this, your fault barn.

I had one friend who was winding his lines when the kite took off and he got dragged by his fingers which cut them up pretty bad.
Wow he started to wind his lines in without even checking his kite was secure, that was definitely NOT the lander's fault :nono:

If someone lands your kite, you still need to check its safe, at the end of the day it's YOUR kite and YOUR responsibility
