Kiter lost in Memphis looking for kiters in the USA

Postby nikospri » Fri May 09, 2014 5:14 pm

Hi Guys,

I have been living in Memphis for a 1 1/2 year now, originally from France. Since I got here I have been looking for people in Memphis to get away but I finally gave up. People in Memphis never heard about kite...
It's very expensive and less fun to plan trips alone so I am looking for some folks who could be motivated to get away for kitetrip together and split the cost.
From Memphis I can easily flight to Corpus Christi/ Florida/ SPI/ Norfolk. I am thinking on going to the Outer Banks 1st week of July, please reach me out if you are up to.

My email: nicolas.spriet@gmail.com

Thanks
Nicolas

Unless you are aiming for a tropical storm, FL in July is not a good bet. Hatteras in NC would be a better bet for you.

Come the fall (Oct/Nov) if you make a trip out to FL let me know, I'll go kiting with ya. Water here is between 70-80 F year round so S FL is a good spot for winter kiting. Although I live down here so its not technically travel lol.

I go through Memphis time to time, was thinking about bringing my gear and trying the river or a nearby lake. Don't know if it's windy enough though.

Just plan a trip to wherever and whenever you want to go...and just go by yourself. You may discover that you meet more people and experience more things that way. That's been my experience anyway. Solo travel can be very liberating and enlightening. Don;t sit around and wait for someone to join you. Make your own adventure.

Hi Nicolas,

There is a small group of us that kite on Kentucky Lake (near Paris, TN) and on some of the Nashville area lakes. We boat launch during the summer when the water is up, and then in the spring and fall we have some good land based launches. We are probably 2 to 3 hours from Memphis. Always glad to have other kiters join us. We are also always looking for a good kite road trip when the forecast looks worth the drive.

Regards,
Dave

Hi Guys,

Sorry for delay, I just came across your responses :)

Dracop, I am travelling regulary in FL as I have customers out there and I used to live in Miami. Where to you live in FL? Next time I'll give you a buzz when I get in the area.

Logsdon, I have been kiting in Memphis in Shelby Farms once, but wind is very bumpy and strong enough 3 times a year... You can make it but it's very rare to get some amazing good conditions. You can join the Facebook page "Memphis power kite enthusists". It has just been created for people who like buggy and potentially kitesurf...

robertovillate, I travel a lot by myself with work and totally agree with you, we learn a lot of thing and meet more people. Nevertheless for a kitetrip I rather prefer to split the costs and particulary having fun with others kiters during& after the ride.

KYLakeKiter, I am definitely willing to drive to meet you guys as soon as the wind picks up. Can you send me a personal email :nicolas.spriet@gmail.com to set something soon. I can even add you on Facebook afterwards.

Nico
