No problemo with windsurfers or any other water user.
Remember we are the dangerous party with our lines.

wait til they come up with a new watersport, you'll see our reaction.
indeed.
Windsurfed 20 years, still would if I lived nearer the spot. Love it, but transport is a hassle. Spending years to develop a good duck jibe on windy weekends only is also a hassle.
Windsurfers excel at maintaining high speed, kiters often don't even bother to go fast, just look for kickers and flat spots to carve a turn in most cases. Then when the mistral blows, kiters show up and give them a run for the record.
As a long time windsurfer turned avid kiter, I can relate to both camps.
But I never jumped 20 feet on a windsurfer, maybe 10, off a swell in Maui or the gorge.
I can double that with a kite on a good blow at my local spot, so... I do.

It's all jealousy , nothing more. They hate us from way back when kiting was actually dangerous to all near by. Old timer windsurfer stuck in their way and hating change.
Also some windsurfer tried kiting back in the day and hated it and never tried it again...now hate kiters just because.
90% of windsurfers have disappeared from Oahu. wind just sucks for them... now they still hate us just because. And I used to windsurf with them, now I am a rebel or something. Odd.
Get a kite and play and shut up, thats what I think. Enjoy the water.

Same question arises in my mind every time I'm out with windsurfers...

Why?

Windsurfing is in a league on it's own. Impossible to debate anything since so many are closed minded.... hitting middle age crisis?? :allbegood:
I mean just look at the general attitude when finally kitesurfing didn't make it into the olympics, THE SPORT IS SAVED!! VICTORY for windsurfing! KITE=LOSERS! DOWN with KITEBOARDING!! EVERYONE drinks are on me, TO THE YACHT club!

For kite surfers it was more like: Oh well GG this time around..maybe next time, who cares its just racing, enjoy your long relationship with the boat people, yea yea congrats, gotta go ride see ya, rofl.

Really though it feels like kites boarders/surfers are so much friendlier and open minded, don't talk as much and just enjoys life more.

If you windsurf, some kiters can be complete wkers, coming towards you with kite low is no fun at all. Some kiters hate other kiters, it's human nature. I kitesurf, shop at Tesco( uk humour) ride a motorbike and mountain bike, so am probably the most hated person on the planet . Still, at least I don't ride North .

wow, now that is something i can watch from start to finish! just hypnotizing.
unlike the kite freestyle videos where all the tricks are the same wiggling to me. may be because the windsurfers feel and use the movement of the air right, not just doing ballet and figure skating suspended in the air...
