easy and best kite spots from japan

Postby feleisha » Wed Apr 30, 2014 1:49 pm

I will be heading to Japan for one year (Nagoya) and it doesn't appear Japan is a good kite spot, so I'm looking for close vacation alternatives....

My husband and I both are experienced kiters - we enjoy freestyle mainly and are happy with winds allowing us to play on 7m - 11m.

We are looking for our dream kite  vacation and would appreciate any advice...

Here is what we are hoping for....
- winds 15 - 25 kts
- beautiful and not over crowded beach
- able to kite in board shorts and rash guard - warm water
- we will have infant with us :baby: - so accommodations can't be too rustic; accommodations available right on beach to allow us to tag team with baby nearby
- flat water would be nice but waves good too - though not too big
- not too complicated to get to as we'd have about 1-2 weeks and don't want to waste alot on travel transitions; flight about 4-6 hours from japan as longest preferably
- delicious and interesting food
- we are able to travel any month but most likely take 1-2 weeks over christmas time plus another trip
- looking for "romantic honeymoon we didn't have" but with emphasis on kiting

Any secret destinations you'd like to share come to mind? you can pm me too! :P

Note - Boracay looks amazing though a bit hesitant about the crowds.....
Mui Ne seems good but we are looking for more remote beach....

Thanks in advance,
f

Quick and easy is Okinawa. The windy season is October - Feb. Warm, but not boardshorts during this time of year. Any other time of the year it would be plenty tropical, but just not as windy. During this time of the year there is pretty consistent 15-25. Probably 4-5 days a week. You would need a full suit in Dec-Feb. Beautiful place and people and would be easy to travel with kids. Great food, diving, sight seeing. May not be the tropical honeymoon you are looking for, but a definite good option for other trips. I remember when I lived there, a lot of mainlanders would come over just for long weekends especially in the fall and winter. So back then it was pretty cheap, not sure if it still is. Obviously Taiwan has super strong winds during this time.

The wind in Taiwan is strong and consistent fro Oct. to March the next year.

One of the best spots in Taiwan is Penghu. Here are some kitesurfing pictures in Penghu.

You can get very cheap tickets from Osaka to Taiwan, one more domestic flight and you will be in Penghu.

The best time to visit Penghu is Oct.-Dec.

A good place to stay is Sunrise B&B, here is the link:

Hope you have great kitesurfing vacation in the coming months.

You've got Tsu in Mie (yacht harbor or Machiya if you can navigate the "roads" to the carpark), Hamamatsu in Shizuoka, and Omaezaki is somewhere around there too - windiest place in Japan, apparently. There are other places on the mainland, but you need to pick the brains of the local crews...

Hello,

Great that you are looking for a nice destination to kite.

I have ended up here just for the same reasons as you mention. No crowds and still( for how long) a hidden gem.
I would like you to look at this site.

http://www.seabreezekiteclub.com/

All the reviews that we are getting are great. Flat or waves.

Accommodation is also on the site available and this with great food is a must after a great day of kiting.

I have posted some pics and a forecast from this week.

Fly to Kuala lumpur and then to Banda Aceh.

Thanks,

Maurice
