Postby BigTomi » Wed Aug 06, 2014 7:56 am

Hi guys,

if you wander what is inside of Carafino boards here are some photos, this is 4-5 year old board hoping new one are bit better.

If someone has idea what to do with this board apart of scraping it weary welcome.

Could happen after 4/5 years use. I would not try to repair it,toobig damage. Take a new board, an old cheap kitesurboard would be great. Or try no-volume board that is more resistant (but less buoyant)

My old 2007 Carafino broke like that too, but only after several years of use. I had fun on that old board and have no complaints.

 CG

i'd just stuff 4 wood stringers into the board about 18 inches on both ends and fiberglass both sides very well... i think that's how its done with surfboards and holds pretty well...

also should consider using an old twin tip or wood plank as your board, once you know how to ride a foil there's not much need for a high tech board in my humble opinion

I made this Paipo hydrofoil board with a one inch plank of Paulowenia wood. the dimensions are 3.5'X13"X1"
Paulowenia is used to make the Alaia and Paipo board before the invention of fiberglass and foam.

wind guy cheap shots are no fun anymore. Any light board will snap at some point, and if you can't fix it, you don't deserve it. You just made me a Carafino booster. Not giving any money up front though......not yet anyway. Smite the Wind guy and let Carafino try to redeem himself I say.

Thanks guys for reply and yours ideas

I was surprised that board has none stringer that is at least strange. :o

For s fun I will try to put two marine plywood stringers with epoxy in 70% of length of a board, strengthen upper skin with fibreglass at least 3 layers and make stronger lower attachment surface of board making it wider and longer towards front of a board.

Maybe will work  :?:

That will be short time fix.

I am still in thinking to build new board at to try to make mount to some old surf board I have.

Does anyone has any details how to make attachment point to standard surfboard and how to strengthen it? Any info is appreciated.

By the end of a day when I have enough info will be building new board.

Tomi

If you use paulownia wood, you don't need reinforcements.
