Postby BigTomi » Wed Aug 06, 2014 7:50 am

Hi guys

I need a help today my HF board brake in half (it is 5 year old board) but I wish to give it a chance with repair.

In attachments are some of photos, any suggestion how to proceed with repair and strengthening board are welcome.

Thanks for reply

Tomi

excellant pictures.
looks like classic buckling failure of bottom skin.

i'm not the one to give advice on repair.
without a sandwick skin ( or even stringers), i would have told you it would never last a week.
"undoing" the damage will be more work than starttng from scratch.

It may seem like a lot to build one from scratch , compared to two halves that just need to be stuck together. once you get over any emotional involvment and sort out the details you may see it differently.

you could certainly use it as a template to practice and develop necessary skills or techniques where you may lack confidence.

...after that, toss it.

no worries,
-bill

Agree with above. Start from scratch. Otherwise When you get done you'll have a heavy board that will have consumed resources.

It's not that hard to learn how to build new.

Thanks guys for reply

Decision is , try to strengthen board insert two stringers and enlarge strengthen attachment point on a lower skin of a board. Maybe it will work , maybe not worth of trying, but let's give it a try.

Regardless of upper result I am in doubt to build new board or to try to use old surfboard I have.

Does anyone have info how to build attachment point for Carafino foil on a standard surfboard?

Thanks for yours replays

If you decide to repair, I strongly recommend cutting any foam or reinforcement parts as precisely as possible so you need as little epoxy filler as possible. That's where you add the most weight.
