OR Flite 2.0 vs Blade Fat Lady v3

Postby dracop » Tue Sep 02, 2014 1:39 pm

Has anyone tested these two kites back to back? I am looking for a new lightwind kite and thought these two are prob the best of the bunch atm. I like a fast turning kite that can be worked up, currently in love with my smaller 11m SS 2014 RPM but need something for those 13mph-20mph days (I weigh 225) here in S. Florida. So speed and boost are important; if either of these kites can be looped that would be huge altho I am realistic about big gun kites hehe.

Also, if anyone is familiar with them, how are the stock bars in terms of high V vs low V? I was planning on using an existing 2013 LF 55cm CPR bar and would prefer something worked well with it. Trying to find a place to demo them here in FL.

Ocean Rodeo has a money back guarantee. So try the Flite, we have liked it better than the fat lady, but we haven't flown the newest version yet. Yes it will work on your bar I would just use some extensions.

My Uncle and I rode them both back to back, as well as a Core 17m XR3...I had ordered the Flite a week before in hopes that I would have light wind to test it. My uncle owned the Core XR3. We tested all 3 kites in Alameda when the wind was between 9 and 12mph according to wind alert. with a Nobile Flying Carpet, I was able to stay upwind with all 3 kites. The Flite and Fat Lady went up wind the best in my opinion. Flite and Fat Lady were very similar but Fat Lady was faster moving. Both the Flite and Fat Lady stayed up in the lulls whereas the Core had to be worked and a couple times dropped into the water. Relaunch was good on all 3 kites.
These kites are all very close and very good kites however I had the most fun on the Fat Lady. I sent back the Flite for a refund and now own a Fat Lady. I have since had it in a variety of conditions including some fairly gusty wind yesterday and it did great. I am very happy with my purchase. The Fat Lady boosts pretty well too...By the way, the Fat Lady came with line extensions.

About the stock bar question: I got a few hours on a Flite and thought it was a pretty good flying kite, but on the stock bar, I thought it had very high bar pressure. I don't usually mind high bar pressure, but I must say this was the highest I have experienced. Also, the bar flagged to both front lines which I did not like. There may be a way to configure it for single line flagging but it wasn't my kite so I didn't get to experiment with options on the bar. It is designed for what they call Direct depower where it is supposed to just roll onto its back evenly when flagged. Just my thoughts on the bar. Still a great kite in the top 5 of all lightwind kites depending on your preferences.

The OR bar cannot be configured to release onto one line.

Your observation about bar pressure is interesting. I own the Flight for the very opposite reason. In fact, the Turbine that is up there used to be mine. I moved to the Flight because of elbow problems and too much bar pressure on the Turbine. (I hope that kite is still rockin' up there! I loved that kite :D ) I really enjoy the OR's bar pressure. I did a 6 hour session earlier this week and had no problems with elbows at all.

We're probably splitting hairs really - there are some really, really good ultra-light wind kites.

Too funny Randy. :thumb: The day before I flew the Flite, I was flying your old Turbine in stupid light winds and was really digging it. I can't explain the difference in opinion on the bar pressure, but Steve thought the same thing I did. To each his own and glad you are killin it on the Flite. I still prefer my kite (brand not for this thread :naughty: ) but all three have their advantages. I'll be down in your area in October so maybe we can do some more comparison then. :bye:

So the Flite cannot be set to flag on one line? Thats important as its already over $100 more expensive and would require buying the OR bar as all of my existing bars flag to one line.
