It really is. Basically what Felix said. The combo of a clipped nose, the MPH bottom contouring, parallel rails, and a wide tail makes it plane SO much better than a standard surfboard design.
Has anyone out there used the DVS Quad Keel fins on their VG?, I have been researching the forums & these fins have been mentioned a few times. I already have a thruster set to try but I would like to have a quad + nubster set up for my 5'2.
So many fins & such little time
Does anyone know if I could purchase a Vanguard in Cape Town, South Africa? And where?
Here in Germany I´d have to wait for 3-4 months, pay in advance, no chance to return in case of not being pleased and the price is.... well, "German" (very high). And I´ll be in Cape Town in November
Again the question: 5'2" or 5'4"?
I´m 75 kg and like to ride without much pull from the kite. Stability at higher speeds is important for me, and I don´t have a problem to slightly compromise agility of the board for stability. I don´t want the Vanguard for lightwind days. Waves I ride are typically between knee and head high, with very choppy water (only windswell). Only strapless.

I also have a FW Quadraflex 6'. Do I need a 3rd board for say over 8 ft waves in powered up side - side off conditions?
Cheers
Why? Do you not like the Quadraflex in those conditions? It would really depend on the particular conditions, but if it gets big and hairy I much prefer straps so I don't get bounced off the board. Also, the one compromise that the VG does make is in the tail. It's really wide. This is GREAT for easy planing and upwind ability, but it makes it very difficult to just stomp the tail and slow the board down. Something I like on bigger waves. If the waves are much overhead I'll grab my 5'10" Global quad over the VG. But that's only about 10% of the time.

Quad on the VG is probably too much fin. It already has crazy drive. Even the v6 thruster felt like too much. I currently have the v6 center with tiny little longboard sidebites and it's great. I'd love to try it as a quad, but not enough to spend money on it.

Here you will see in the footage that the VG can excel in waves over 5ft.
It takes you thru sections with out having to use the power of the kite so much.
Notice the amount of distance the is covered with the kite just Drifting.
Hitting the lip with board momentum - Hardly any kite use just a stability and drift coming into play.
There are no hook ups on big white water climbs.
This board truly thrives in variety of conditions.
Taking to the air the boards Swing weight is amazing as the nose and tail are balanced in area allowing the wind grab evenly.
