Toby could do much better if he could combine what he is doing with loops. He could go out on a 12-14m hybrid Cshaped kite throw a forward loop forward spin at the apex(safer in 30knots than back ones) do some board offs while spinning and come down with couple heli loops. That would do for the podium.

+1

Hey Toby,

While airstyle isn't my choice of riding, I admire the skill level that you have! Well done and congrats on being able to hang with some of the best riders in the PKRA (that isn't something that almost any of your critics can claim that they can do)! To me, the fact that you are competing with these high level riders is a testament to how good that you are. I would love to see how well your cyber critics would fair in that comp....oh wait, they didn't have the balls to compete!

@soul19: I've never said that Toby isn't good, that would be quite ridicoulous, because I can't do anything what he does. I just said that I like the style of the KOTA more than airstyle, because in my opinion that's way more stylish than all the things Toby does.

In my opinion there is not much "style" left in the airstyle that Toby does, it's almost the same as the freestyle logic. Just do as manny spins and different kind of board off flips in one jump and you should get more points.

Also I think it's quite normal that in a Big Air competition you get more points for going big rather than technical moves.

But as I said before, what Toby does is really impressive there's no doubt about that.

Hey JVG,

I wasn't implying you at all, it was just a generalized statement and a kudo's to Toby. I don't particularly care for the big air style myself but do appreciate those who do it! Toby is a strong rider and takes a lot of abuse for the style that he is so passionate about. I do believe that Big Air is more pleasing to the general public but the technical proficiency of the wake/free style riders is a whole different ball game (just this one douche bags opinion  )!

So once again....congrats Toby, job well done!!

Between you and me heliloops but a loop is a loop. When Hadlow did 5 loops nobody said a loop and four heliloops.
I use smaller gear and the most I can do with the loop is decent height slow front spin front loop with the grab and backloop landing. But there is time to do more especially with your quickness and more height. You need a different kite though something that will take off from 12 o'clock. The kite has to also move back when you pull the bar and be choked. I don't try a lot of kites but just flew the new Riot XR3 13.5m and this kite can do it. The front spin front loop combination is very smooth. I am able to hold the bar with just one hand. The key is the kite ripping from twelve so it is in right position giving you slack, with the front spin you move with the wind so that gives you even more slack. With more wind you could initiate the forward spin forward loop choking the bar(holding normally on opposite ends) with two hands just in case and after the spin and the loop are completed do an Airstyle trick and come down for landing with back loop. That way it is more hardcore and you cover more distance taking some dangling criticism out of the equation.

Flying a smaller kite does take more skill and risk then flying a larger one .. Maybe the judges entered that into their final equation. Regardless of that, I do respect your Show, toby.

Maybe, there should be a wing loading requirement for different wind speeds.

Rider+board weight divided by kite size.... that will even out the lift factor amongst the riders. After that it becomes a true comp.

Thx for the compliments guys!

Bob: great shot! See the people watching! I am sure they did "wow" ;-)

I can do all those boardoff tricks you saw at KOTA.
They are basics. I show my more technical tricks to score higher.
But in the KOTA height you don't want to go for too much risk, it is dangerous.

Loops: I did kiteloops in the past, but stopped because I don't want to risk any injury if I push them further.
If I would use small kites, normal KL are easy.
Did those even with 14 sqm, not too fast kites with inner bar settings.

Now with 18 not a good idea to do KL.

But, Heli loops I do!

Before comp the first trick I did was a big air with triple heliloop on my slower 18 with 32m lines...

My first jump of the semifinal was a high Jesus Air Board Flip followed by a heliloop...

I have some dreams of tricks with heliloops and hope one day I can land them...they gonna be amazing!
