New Cabrinha kites! White inside lines - arrg!

Postby Professor Robae' » Thu Dec 25, 2014 6:34 pm

Super stoked to get a couple of new Cabrinhas. Opened up the kit to find they now come with white inside/ front lines (outer back lines are black). Not good on snow. I have been told colored inside lines are unobtainable. I have inquired to multiple sources about a way to dye or color the lines. Have been told there is no viable option for Dynama. Do not use a dye that requires heat. Do not try and strip a little wax off the line coating to get a permanent magic marker to set, etc., etc. Anyone have a viable solution? Thanks!

And the black lines can be hard to see it in the water.

why does it matter if the lines are white or black? I like to leave my lines attached. Its so fast and once you get a good routine tangles are non-existant. Assuming you have a bar for every kite though.

Yes, I do have a bar for each. The problem is that once in a while a white line can get away from the black lines and can get run over and nicked by either my ski or another's ski or the ultimate FUBAR: run over by a snowmobile - I've seen it way too many times - not pretty!

I can understand you, i hate it too! I really appreciate my colored lines on my new Peter Lynn foil kites. Easier to setup and less risk. Also sometimes i just take a break and land the kite on the snow, with high visibility colored lines they are much easier to see for other riders around you. I have seen a few guys running over others lines with their skis (white lines)!

Slingshot has 4 white lines...lol... I ride both cabs and SS... On snow 5 months a year... Just stretch your lines, attach them, then roll your bar when not flying the kite.

wrap your line immediately when riding on snow. Have seen too many people haplessly ride over others lines even when they are bright yellow or orange. Letting em sit laid out is asking for it.

I wrap em immediately both summer and winter. Once its a habit, there is very little exposure to your lines. Someone has to be a real idiot to ride between you and your kite while you are actively wrapping up the lines.

When kiting in deep snow , you really dont feel like walking up and down to your kite. Also a lot easier to find wich way to twist the bar when launching the kite: in the winter I always use foils and i leave the lines on the kite.

Also ask yourself this simple question, if companies that make kites would offer the same model at the same price; one with all 4 coloured line and one with all four white line. Which would you honestly choose.

In the video at the end of this page; a white rope goes into a yellow substance then looks like it gets heat cured:
