Nobile Infinity splitboard with other foils?

Postby fun2kite » Thu Jan 05, 2017 3:10 pm

Hi all,

Does anybody know what are the dimensions between holes on nobile infinity splitboard?
I was wondering if it would fit Moses latest masts. If distance is same, one could potentially take a split-board while traveling, and ride normal board at home.

Is there a standard by now on how far the holes on the plate should be?
Moses: 165mm X 90 mm

I guess in addition to fitting the spacing, the foil may wind up being too far back or forward.

I was just told by Nobile distributor that holes will fit. I will have a chance to demo this setup some upcoming weekend hopefully and will report how good is the fit and if mast sits too far forward/back.. But if somebody already has an experience with such setup, do share now.

I think what is important is the strap locations relative to the plate location. I ran a tape measure from the rear of the Zen board, top and bottoms.

The plate bolts are 30.5cm and 47cm from the rear.

Rear strap, 11.75cm and 16.75cm

Front straps. 81.75cm and 93.5cm

I think that will give you what you need.

I have actually started learning without straps because I am super careful and don't want to get hit by the foil. I still think that this can give good info on if it will work well. Let us know what you find out.

Ok everybody,
We got very lucky this weekend and it was windy two days straight and I had plenty of time in the water. I also did have a chance to try attaching Moses Vorace mast to Nobile Infinity board.
The included pictures show how it looks.. Now to my review...

The holes fit perfectly, I guess we now have some standard on spacing of the plate attachments? Anyway, no issues there.
The Nobile board, attaches differently. It does not have holes going all the way thru the board and nothing comes out from the top of the board. So I did not use the Moses bolts, which I originally thought I would.
But Nobile bolts fit and I was able to use them to attach my mast directly to the bottom of the foil.
Nobile board actually uses some attachment to attach the mast, (I forgot to take the picture of it). but original Mast of Nobile split uses that plate to attach it's own mast.
I did not use it, just attached my mast directly to bottom and used it's screws.
I think the length of the screws is a bit too short for my comfort. If I were to actually use that board, I would buy bots that are say 5mm longer.. But, the original bolts work and I went riding on them.

The board itself is smaller than Moses T40. Very small volume and it looks small visually, however, it weights more than Moses T40. I think about 1- 1.5 kg more.

You can see from the attached pictures that the mast sits a lot more forward in relation to the back strap than it is on original Moses setup. On Moses, the plate of the mast is almost under your back foot, but here you can see how much more forward it sits.
When I saw this on the beach, I had a concern in my head if I could actually ride it with straps. I went out and to my surprise, I started flying right away and I could ride it in straps without any issues.
However, the felling was definitely not perfect and I moved my back leg from the strap to just in-front of the strap. That position felt was much much better and I rode it that way for the remainder of the demo.

The small issue with moving my foot from the back strap to the in-front was that i wound up with quite narrow stance. Which is quite fine for recreational ridding and just cursing, but probably too narrow for powered riding and racing.
So at the end of the day, I think the front straps would need to be moved forward to accommodate riding with back foot in proper position on the board.

Of course, one can always ride strapless and then , there would be no issue at all with either straps.

So, my verdict is: It is possible to use Moses wings with Nobile split board and for travel (non-racing) it's quite good setup. I think the perfect setup would actually be this board with a new 70 cm mast.
When you split the board into two pieces, I think each piece is probably around 70 cm. So if you do that, you will wind up with one bag which is 70 cm long and all your gear is inside! Which is quite sweet.

I liked the board construction quality and that it can be used as surfboard (I did not try to ride it with fins). I don't think this board is a good idea as a main board for light wind locations as it has very small volume. I really like the volume Moses t40 provides.
But for travel, I think this is the only board on the market now that splits.. So, it's a no-brainer to me.

I am not buying it now, but when the time comes for my next trip where I want to do light and with ONE kite only, I'll take this board, 70 cm mast and 14m kite and I'll be good for pretty much any conditions.

Comments? Ideas?

Cheers all.

I just got the Nobile split and the large travel bag. I have an MHL lift foil that fits it fine with M6 2cm screws and washers but I'm ordering the Fluente Moses 91 which should just fit in this Nobile travel bag (90x48x20) with the board, a couple of cloud kites, harness, wetsuit and a pump. I should be set to travel anywhere and not have an annoying surfboard stuffed in a small rental with my family! Finally a compact kitesurfing package!

Let us know how well the 91cm mast fits in the travel bag. Sounds like an idea travel package.

The board is a KILLER at upwind.. i have won 3 races i a row with LW conditions (8-11knts)..In one race i started last cause of a tangle, pass them all and finished 1st..in waves its ok but not even close to a surfboard(i m very experienced strapless wave rider)

Can you say more about the board only in surf? How it performs on its own once you detach the foil?

I am wondering if Nobile will add a two strap option in 2018

you can easily pay somebody to put in two new inserts for a two strap position on this boards. Typically can cost like $25-$30 per insert.

In-fact, I plan to add inserts for back-strap if I buy this board as the rear foot-strap is too far back for what I am trying to do.
