This authentic Mexican fishing village also happens to be one of the best places to learn kiteboarding in Mexico (and North America as well!). The windy season is November to August, but the peak for wind is February to June and these months will give you the best % of wind to learn and ride. The most desirable wind direction is the thermal that pushes daily 12pm to sunset from the Northeast. This reliable wind typically begins during middle of February and will last until mid June or later. There is a number of sandbars for shallow water learning just off shore, with wind chop and small waves. If the wind is an “El Norte” you can expect larger waves and wind up to 30 knots. El Nortes are rare and can happen during the months of November to February.

Thanks for the post. I am heading there April 11th. We secured a nice house on the beach. Very affordable. See you soon!

Hi Jennifer,
We look forward to meeting you. We hope the guide helped you since there is a lack of good information on this awesome windy spot.
If you need any other info or if there is anything we can help with, please send us a msg.

Check out our weather page for El Cuyo here for the daily am & pm forecast. Click on the forecast to open the extended hourly forecast by ikitesurf. It tends to be fairly accurate, although it doesn't always factor in the thermal pull (which is a few knots more then what it shows), so the direction sometimes is more NE than the forecast shows.
