Gin News:

Gin Kiteboarding presents the Eco-Board 100% Swiss made and eco-responsible

ECO BOARD top.jpg

La Neuveville, Switzerland - 4th of May 2017 - GIN KITEBOARDING unveils its brand new limited edition kiteboard, 100% Swiss made and eco-responsible! This one-of-a-kind “ECO-BOARD” with a highly reduced environmental impact is handcrafted close to Bienne in Switzerland. It’s made of Swiss wood and biocomposite materials.

The ECO-BOARD
GIN KITEBOARDING has developed the ECO-BOARD in an effort to create products that are more respectful of nature: “The
eco-responsible approach of this twintip board is a globally innovative concept. It isn’t a simple marketing ploy that you may
see a lot of these days in the market, the ecological concern is in its genes: we maximize the natural components and limit the
transportation carbon footprint.” confides Fabienne Kaufmann, manager at GIN KITEBOARDING. “We went even one step
further by building by hand the press (machine for sticking and compressing the layers that make the boards), nearly entirely out
of wood.”

The ECO-BOARD is produced in the Bern County in Switzerland and is destined mainly for the Swiss and European customers.
It’s made from poplar and walnut wood from the Bern region.
This is a local manufacture and uses biocomposites. The GIN KITEBOARDING logo is burnt on to the board with a branding
iron and gives the ECO-BOARD a beautifully refined look. Each board is a unique model, individually numbered with distinctive
shades of the two-colored walnut wood. Each piece is carefully handcrafted.

The ECO-BOARD is a limited edition: produced in small series representing a total of one hundred boards available for pre-order in May 2017 and for sale in shops this summer.

More information:
Size: 132 x 39 I 135 x 40 I 138 x 41 I 141 x 42
Numbering: from 1 to 100
Flex: two options, medium or stiff
Use: twintip board, freeride-freestyle

The ECO GIN label
The essence of kite surfing is environmentally friendly: being pulled along over water, earth or snow thanks to the power of the
wind and without an engine. Offering eco-responsible products to riders seems like an obvious solution for the Swiss brand. GIN
KITEBOARDING is conscious of the efforts and improvements that can still be made in this domain and the creation of the
“ECO GIN” label clearly emphasizes its willingness to reduce as much as possible its ecological footprint in the creation of its
products and through tangible actions.

Huge progress is still to be made as far as eco-responsibility goes. Since the creation of the brand ten years ago, the GIN KITEBOARDING team has set clear objectives to adopt a more and more responsible approach to its production. For example, they use recycled cardboard from local companies to pack their products. They give a second life to used kites by giving them to schools for manual activities and also to Rondechute, who make bags and accessories in Fribourg, Switzerland.
These small actions testify to a real ecological awareness.

is a fur coat animal-responsible too? It's also "...maximize the natural components..." thing as said above.

“We went even one step further by building by hand the press (machine for sticking and compressing the layers that make the boards), nearly entirely out of wood.”

Burning wood to heat up the premises and to produce power for the facility is equally eco-responsible. Basically the idea is - the more wood you cut down, the better.

"The *** ************** logo is burnt on to the board with a branding iron "

the serial number is burn-branded onto the board too, right? One gotta love those European traditions...

"...Each board is a unique model..."

That's how it was before modern days manufacturing was invented - not that they wouldn't, folks just couldn't make two pieces the same

no hate though. Not sure about more important features of the board like weight, rocker and concave/channel specs but the board looks sweet and expensive.
Just those lame eco-friendly arguments are so unrealistically stretched and obviously hilarious. I thought though that people who have enough dough to pay price of elite board must be smarter folks and don't believe in fairytales.

Most eco-responsible thing would be to close down the facility in first place if you think about it...

and now seriously. Instead of branding huge logo you should brand owner's name/contact or before it's coated - arrange a two-way shipping to an artist for a piece of custom graphics, whether burnt of painted. That's what makes things elite - made personally for someone. And folks will pay double the price.

P.S. Don't forget nice leather straps/pads/handle and more importantly - a choice of either leather or carbon-fiber carry bag, a set of display hooks to put this beauty on a wall and option to buy two exact pieces - one for the wall display, another for use. Magnesium alloy fins and titanium pad screws would also make sense.

There's nothing new in there. Linen/ cotton has been a viable alternative for years.
And since when can walnut be sustainably harvest?

If there is no carbon or exotics in the materials or construction, why the elitist price tag? Kind of betrays the only real intention. If they believed any of their own eco speak, they'd make that shit cheap, sell 3000 rather than 30 and perhaps actually accomplish something.

Some rich dude is gonna buy one and fly it from Europe to brazil then to cape town for a few years all while deluding himself he's decreased his footprint in the way only the truly pretentious can.

Wouldn't it be more eco-friendly to collect micro-plastic from sea off a sailboat and then melt it down into a cheap, but properly structured and shaped plastic board?

And is it gluten-free, organic, non GMO, rBST free, all-natural, reduced sodium, fat-free, sugar-free, and kook-proof?

Selling a wooden board on the eco-friendly bandwagon is so 2000. It has been done before. If you want to sell me a board, tell me how awesome it is, not how I am going to save the planet by buying another board (how eco-friendly is it to have multiple boards?) Or is this a beginner board for the guy that is going to be so eco-responsible that it is the last board that they will ever buy?

I don't hate the board, it looks nice, just so tired of silly eco-marketing.
