The Florida - Bahamas Crossing is about to come!

More info about the crossing here:

Just spoke to Neil Hutchinson, organizer of the race:

Looks like the winds will shift to North and Northeast from Wednesday on.
We are looking for winds of about 15 knots out of N, NE direction.

I will keep you updated about the schedule.

On Monday, 28th, there will be an opening party in the Treasure Trove, Ft. Lauderdale.

Stay tuned!

nice party, and all 16 teams came for a briefing.
4 girls will compete as well!

Everyone is stoked and kiteflix did a lot of filming and will cover the whole event.

Looks like the race will go off at 9am Friday.

Stay tuned for more!

Excitement is building and we are pulling strong for good crossing winds for this incredible event. Neil and the gang threw a great kickoff party for the event. Party photos follow at:

latest info from Neil:

Hi all,

Right now we are 99% sure Friday 9am is the launch date/time. I have
been on the phone with the top forecaster at NOAA for literally
several hours today and all of their models point towards Friday. My
contact there knows exactly what we are looking for and what we are
doing. As this is totally dependent on the weather, we all know
forecasts can be off from time to time, though we have had one of the
top people in the world working with us hourly on this forecast.
Therefore start getting the wheels in motion and unless something
drastically changes we are sounding the horn, 9am Friday morning! The
forecast is that it will be North at 15. If this holds we are in great
shape, the only down side to this direction is that it maybe, just
maybe, it may be side/side offshore at the launch which will prove to
be a difficult launch for the start, but everyone will have the same
wind. If it takes you 10 minutes even to launch and get of the beach
that time could be made up with no problem over the course of the
entire race, so don't stress about it.

looks like Friday will be the day!!!

Latest info from Neil:

Hey all this is the new forecast for Bimini, there will be wind out there but it may be quite light here in the morning. I also feel it could be side offshore winds here also, which will make for very difficult start. NOAA is also confirmed with me the wind will be about 13 in the am and building. We can only try. If it looks impossible at 9am we will go back into a holding pattern possibly for next weeks front.

So fingers crossed and lets hope for the best. Neil

Wind Speed/Dir Friday - 18 mph / NNW - 19 mph / N - 18 mph / N

Some of us are literally on the edge of our seats, we have a St.Pete team, I just want to hear that all people are safe mainly.

I don't have a lot of news, but almost half of the best kiteboarding staff in Delray participated in the race. The only news I have is that the team of Ian Huscle, our new CEO and Troy Lawson, our Director of IT made it safe. Ian finished the race, but Troy didn't make it all the way across and had to get in the boat. No news on Stacey (who was riding with Safety Rick) or any other team members, but Shannon (who was smart enough to not go) told me the Gulfstream was huge and knarley. And I guess it took the first teams 8 hours to finish and most are not finished yet... Just hope everyone is safe and we have some good stories out of it.

Switchblades kill smoke the Bahamas Crossing!!

Postby stuntc » Sat Dec 03, 2005 12:13 am

No 8 hours there! Kent Marinkovic and Mike Gebhardt sponsored by Cabrinha Kites, United Capitol Market Holdings, and the crew of the REEL DOC absolutely smoked the competion by over 3 miles and nearly 1 hour. Both athletes were equiped with stock 2006 Cabrinha Switchblade 16 meter kites. Kent was the first one to make it off the beach in the ultralight winds soon folowed by Mike. The Reel Doc then set the pace and direction ending in a blistering 3 hour finish.
The time would have ben much faster had it not ben for a few misshaps.
Congradulations Kent and Mike and all their sponsors.
More to come soon...

Just got news that the St.Pete team is all in one piece from a rider's wife.
That is good news. That is all she got from a VERY short phone call, but no bad news was mentioned
