where for 3 months?

Postby Pier » Sun Apr 21, 2013 6:32 pm

Im free for three months (jul aug sep) and im looking for a place cheaper, with at least 50% days 18+ kn, no waves, spots not far from the town/city, with 13+ hours of sun in the day.
Im intermediate.

I was in egypt, dakhla and canary island so now i can prefer change, better if is out of europe.

any advice?

Maui is great that time of year if you find housing you can afford, and with a little searching you should. They have Costco so food is reasonable.

I've never been, but I hear that the west Coast (Oregon, Portland) is the place to be int he summer, I have a buddy that travels every summer to windsurf up there. I've heard La Ventana, Los Barriles, La Paz, that area is happening around that time, starts to pickup for the winter. Never been, but always heard a lot of my windsurfing buddies go there.

OMG how could I've forgotten, Lake Calima, in Cali, Colombia, is windy there like all year round, but I best winds are in the summer. I went a summer but I didn't used to kite then and the windsurfing was spectacular, haven't been back in 2 years, but maybe this summer. And is suuuuuper cheap.

Hi Pier,

At that time of the year there is one spot I can highly recommend - the NE part of Brazil (eg. Cumbuco). Winds are around 25knots almost every day, 13 hours sun, warm water, not too expensive compare to other countries etc.
See you around... :thumb:

Cheers

Cabarete is good and cheap (relatively) , but not quite flat water. For true butter flat water, you'll have to travel outside of town. There are world class kitesurfing waves all over town.

The upside of Cabarete over most other places is that there is tons to do, and a great community of active people.

About 30 km east of Cabarete is a bay with a reef and totally flat water. West side of Gaspar Hernandez.

People don't really travel to kitesurf in Cabarete, they get lazy and tend to only go right out front. IF you're willing to drive, there are literally hundreds of spots on the island to suit every style of kiteboarding. There's even lakes with wind up in the mountains.
