...why not? I've only just started playing about with transitions recently, been doing hooked/unhooked kiteloops for ages now.

Also, you can actually De-power your kite in a kite-loop by simply pulling
on the break-line, instead of using the bar ;

Doesn't that kinda defeat the object of doing a kiteloop in the first place?

helicopter kiteloops are very useful if you don't want to lose a lot of distance downwind with a real kiteloop. Low kiteloops, mega kiteloops, helicopter kiteloops they are all useful.

Say you just did a back-roll and it's time for a transition turn ; pulling on the
break-line and doing a De-powered Kite-loop during that turnaround, will
look WAY Cooler than spinning your bar to un-twist your lines. My 13M Edge
can handle about 25mph, (22kt) wind in that maneuver , without being
pulled down-wind. Do the same by using the bar in that kite-loop , and
your gonna loose about a Bunch of Meters of your position ; you won't be
able to hold down the power. I weigh 91kg.

The guys that see & try to copy that maneuver in a higher breeze ,
without pulling on the break-line -------------------------(there gonna get Launched) !!!
I tricked a Few kiters with That-one . :D

BTW --kiteontario-- , if you got a 3M traction kite ; this is ALL stuff you can
learn in a park at Night, with only 3-5mph wind , (when your not working).

What is a break line? I do helicopter loops they are so fun, I also do normal kite loops, I do help-loops when I have someone too close to me to let me know go away, it really supirses me when they see me reach way up on the back line and pull it hard, kiteloops so fast they usually go away, hehe. :D

That's what the cord ya pull to slow down that side of the wing on
a PG is called ; i bin flying them since 1989 and only bin flying
kites for 8 years now, so it's hard to change the vocabulary,
since PG's have bin around a LOT longer than these water kites !!

I ran into the same vocabulary problem on that thread where
the guy tried to change the definition for kite-loop by calling
a front-roll a (front-loop) ; that was just Last week .

You said Kite
You Didn't say Water kite, so don't roll your eyes and I'll explain it in simple terms , that
even a simpleton like You , can understand where the term comes from in the
kiting world.

On a traction or foil Kite, they would be connected to the back of the kite
and the bottom of the handles.

OH Yea --- there called Break Lines.

Google search -- (break lines on a kite) , and Ya get this:

from :
http://www.coastalwindsports.com/ChoosingAKite.html

1/2 way down you see The picture below .

I was also flying Traction Kites before i learned to kite board ; but since this is
a kite board forum, i'll refer to them an Rear lines from now on.

Bille

Ps : Think about it --- the lines connected to the Trailing Edge of a KITE, are
called BREAK-LINES , in (2) different sports :
Traction Kite-ing and Para Gliding ...
& Both sports were around Before Kite-boarding became popular, and i
did Both of those sports before i tried flying one of your water kite. Like
25 years before i ever heard of kite boarding.

What did that guy call a Front-Roll once again ? He called it a front-Loop ? !!
So what's he gonna call a Kite-Loop ?

Sorry -- i flew my Hang glider yesterday, so i'm a bit WIRED right now .

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like unless one lives in a spot where they can get out on the water several times a week, it's hard to progress beyond simple riding and jumps. Of course the week away at a windy spot for a vacation is great... but then the time spent crashing, retrieving a board and relaunching a kite could be curbed a bit with a skilled coach observing the errors and giving tips on mistakes. Even just following behind in a boat is great help too to save time. Perhaps it's not someone telling me "how to do it", it's more just having a coach that can watch and help me correct my mistakes quicker. Correct?
