Looks good, but now that you have the hook cut off you should be able to drag the bar out of there and clean up the nubs pretty easily.
Apologies for digging up this old thread, I'm thinking about modifying my bar and lots of new spreader bars are sewn into the pad very snugly making removal extremely unlikely without butchering it. Of course if you don't care how rough it looks it's a moot point. I think g00mbs did a great job. Wish there was an easy way to drill a hole through a rounded spreader bar and use a knot on that end to secure and adjust the length.

I kept the nubs on my spreader bar. They keep the Velcro loop in the centre of the bar.
If you drill your bar you will make it weaker.
Just run a webbing strap with a D ring around bar.

Yup, shortly after posting I realized what a bad idea, a big enough hole in the spreader bar would compromise the strength too much. I still like the concept of a hole in the middle however, that way you could have a long enough bury on the loop side and a stopper knot on the other to adjust length. Other than maybe the RE carbon spreader bar I can't think of any that would work. Maybe a J-Bar?

If you don't wanna drill, cut or weld anything, just get any of the current versions of the NP aluminum spreader bar, unscrew the 3 bolts and fix whatever you wish there. Their 2018 new pad looks much neater than the older one.
They say it fits almost any harness brand and is sold separately, so it's not a huge investment.

Looked at the NPs before, nice harnesses but the spreader bars are IMO clumsy, too many parts, screws and springs for my taste. How is the bar held to the pad, some sort of zip tie? No thanks.

2 screws with large enough washers on the back to keep the pad in place securely

Jay bar would work because the hook is threaded and secured by two nuts. It comes without the hook installed btw. The bar is seriously strong.
