Hi,

I had a great day with the CA Waves the other day. First full power on the 4.5 for 2 hours then a 2 hour downwinder on the 6.5.
This is from the downwinder:

Great video with a nice soundtrack ;)
Although I am into hydrofoiling the past few years, I would love to try this concept out on my waveboard!

Never tested personally unfortunatelly , but a skilled foiler in my area (mostly race oriented, all air transitions, some competitions, usually on R1V2 or PL Aero v2) bought the 4 and 6.5 m2 to replace his small LEIs (he always uses his hydrofoil but does not like high AR kites in high winds) ; after 3 month use now he told me he loves them and will not go back to LEI , for their autonomy at landing alone, drift , stabilibty and relaunch in the water; a bit less "mosquito" than a smalls LEI , so he prefers. Again a very good foiler, so interesting to know.

Small LEIs are a bit crazy with how fast they are.

Hi Jannik, I was thinking on buying a foil kite to do downwinds like the one you did in the video.
How much wind did you have? How much do you weigh?
Where you looping the kite?
I would want to use this kite in 14 to 25 knot winds and weigh 92kg.

Grate video, thanks.

My guess is we had 16-20 knots which is enough for me and my ~80kg. but 16 is on the low end because I have to work the kite too much. Especially on downwinders where you follow the kite all the time. I didn't have to loop the kite though. My buddies where on 7 and 8 m. leis and I think we were all pretty much equally powered for our individual weight/capabilities.

It also depends on the quality of the waves. If you just need to get out and catch a big roller and then the waves takes care of the rest then you can of cause go low. I unfortunately use quite some time searching for something to pop up.

You write "buying a foil". I know of no other foil that works properly for waveriding. I left foils for LEIs because they didn't work and I would go back to LEIs again if I couldn't ride the CA Wave anymore.

If you want to surf the waves and not do flat water turns then plenty of foil kites work. Even though not easy the high aspect race ones too.

Thaks, the downwinds here dont have too much surfing waves. The 6.5 would be grate to try for +16 knots but since I travel through some distance, having more wind range would be good as there is less chance of not getting to the end point in case the wind drops. Maybe the hyperlink 9 or 11m could also be a possibility; is the wind range of this foil kites equal or larger than a tube kite like the rebel?
On the other hand, I woudnt have to worrry of the kite deflating in the midle of the travesy. (And it is so much lighter to carry if I would have to walk with it)

Hi

I also own a CA Wave 6,5 for hydrofoiling. Hughe windrange.

I read on FB that there will be a CA Wave 8,5.

Yes the first 8.5 prototype is out. Benoît is now on the fine tuning phase and he will send it for some more serious testing in waves:

The idea of the 8.5 (which seems to have a wind range close to the pulsion 9m) is to make a two quiver kites for travelling 4.5 + 8.5 (for me :-)) and for heavier riders on hyrdofoil in waves.

Otherwise, one of our FZ member visited him last month when he bought his pulsion 12m and he posted some photos to get how Benoît Tremblay works at Concept Air:
