Big Kiteloops always end in an enema

Postby hoxton » Wed Sep 13, 2017 12:50 pm

Big Kiteloops always end in an enema.

hey so I've been trying to get my Kiteloops bigger and more powered and I'm at the point where the loop is huge, I go whizzing forwards and then I look at my kite below me as i bar out and start to free fall. then I hit the ocean with an almighty thud.

with smaller loops my knees can take the impact of falling out of the sky, but with these bigger ones I just get slammed, even if I land on my feet the force of hitting the water makes me unable to ride out.

Any pointers?

Sounds like potentially two things.

Wrong kite or you're not going high enough or both. The higher you go the easier it is to swing under the kite. No point trying to do proper loops on anything bigger than a 10 and you need to be pretty lit too. You could always try longer lines as the kite will loop higher but that probably isn't the feeling you're after.

Show us a video? Typically the enema happens either when you pull too late so the kite never catches you or too slow of a kite.

I think the right kite makes a big difference. on my GP 9m I can land "somewhat bigger loop", when I sheet in for second loop it slows me down and the impact is really small.
On FX or smaller size Bandit, I land pretty hard sometimes, even if I inititate that downloop early, sometimes it doesn't seem to generate enough pull to slow me down.

My main issue on "bigger" one, is timing of downwloop which can be tricky when you pendulum down so fast!
Either I sheet out a bit too much and I am a bit slow to initiate downloop which makes kite go pretty far behind me which usually sends me in a quarter turn rotation by the time I land.
Other time I get timing of downloop right but land with so much horizontal speed that I can't even stick that landing lol even with moderate rocker.
I feel on bigger one, since there is no issue of catch kiting you I could try to stall the kite a little more on way back up so it doesn't overshoot 12 so fast.. I guess overall just need more experience. I haven't had that many solid +28 knots loop session, out here usually over 28 the wind range is so wide that it makes it hard to loop...

"Big Kiteloops always end in an enema."

- that's funny. Why you doing it than? Just wait and it will end up in much bigger than enema...Like breaking both tibia which we witnessed a few weeks ago.

Go higher and don't loop in to low wind, that's a nice way to destroy your knees. I looped my kite a few months ago in 27-28 knots and because I wasn't high enough (6-7m) I hit the backside of a wave full on and my knees hurt for a week.
